Perhaps this was discussed in the thread about the ollie contest, but did anyone find it interesting that even though bi-levels are supposed to add enormous pop to one's ollie, all three of the riders who rode bi-levels didn't make the opening height, granted the bad weather conditions. Just seemed a bit interesting that a regular concave took our "air-on" reed with his rediculous bi-level board? not to bad mouth bilevels, because i love mine. hah.

I don't think its supoose to have some amazing height addative pop. Maybe for people who have some room for improvement on their ollies, it will help, but someone like reed already has a huge ollie so the board can only do so much more. Plus, it was a contest, so everyone was put on the spot to do it that day at that time, which never helps. But I do see what you are saying.

I think maybe its more about the feel of the pop.

I think things are misunderstood about this deck. Look at a basic principle in physics: there is no free lunch. That means that you're never going to get more than you invest. So, regardless of the bi-level/fulcrum design, you're not going to get high with minimal effort--your ollie height will always be proportional to the energy you invest in that trick. It will work that way with any deck, though that's not to say that technology can't help us out a little bit. But you do have to have some skills in order to benefit from that technology.

Anyway, if you read the press release, the design helps accelerate your board off of the water when you ollie. It definitely feels different (and a good test someone told me about is to ollie three times regular and three times switch--all on the bi level--and then try that on a regular wakeskate). And if you ride that deck personally, you'll see that the feeling is a huge character trait of that board.

electricsnow, according to this the board generates an unimaginable amount of pop.

I have never been on a bi-level (I have been on a few moms) so take this with a grain of salt.

I would think, and this is just sort of a hypothesis, that bi-levels would not excel in ollie comps. Why? #1 Lets say they do pop better and with greater ease - well they are also heavier so that has to negate some of that gain. #2 their total size (or depth) from the bottom of your foot to the bottom is quite large. This is going to make getting over an object at least FEEL harder as you would be thinking you have to get the lower deck above the item. That would take most out of the flow.

Just a guess.

I thought the bi-level was supposed to make olling (sp?) easier...because of the fulcrum effect, you didn't have pop as hard to get the same height you got on your single deck...i have to ride one of these things and settle this

They FEEL more like a regular skateboard but in the long run it's all about the skills of the rider. Choose your weapon....
