Went out this weekend so I have a few questions.
I got up my first time behind a jet ski last week. I didn’t really pop up like they do in the SNAP instructional but I’m pretty sure it’s because of the rope not being near as high when attached to a tower. Over the weekend I got behind a 24’ Celebrity with a 454. The hook thing was about 4 feet off the water so I figured it would be tons easier than a jet ski. Wrong, I didn’t get up once behind it, a few times were due to the handle being to slick but other times there was just to much water in front of the board and I couldn’t hold up to the pressure. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? Maybe I’m holding the board at to much of an angle it was pretty much like the first picture below(Fg. 1).
I’m thinking I should hold it more like the second picture (Fg. 2)?
After getting frustrated with the boat I got up the first time with very little struggle behind my jet ski and stayed up carving in and out just fine.
If I’m not making enough sense let me know because I drew up these stupid paint images to give you sort of an idea how I was holding the board.
Things I’m planning on getting in the near future:
Ski boat(rents sold ours last summer, me and my bro are looking to buy one)
Straightline rope w/ handle
Pole(maybe tower) to get the rope higher.
TIA
Fg. 1
Fg. 2

Ok, but should it matter what is pulling me? Does the rope being lower to the water really make a difference how fast you pop out of the water?
I'd rather just buy a new jet ski and get rid of my polaris 1050 instead of a new boat but I'm afriad a jet ski will be a lot harder to get up than a ski boat with a pole/tower. |

| urinal mint, ya hammers on top of it. not the boat or the tower. a majority of the wakeskaters get towed by jetskis and i know my jetski pulls at the water as do many unless you have that nifty wake pole for the seadoos. just bend you knees so much. the best thing ive seen was in the detention vid for getting up. just sit on the ground with your knees bent at a 90 and have someone help you up. all you do is pivet around your feet and you dont really stand up (unless you get up totally different than everyone on the planet). just try that and dont fight the boat so much, relax |

| doesnt matter whats pulling u up, its in your knees and arm strenght. Just stay back untill u think u can pop up like in Snap.. it comes with time, everyone will agree to that. |

k, it's gotta be not bending my knees. one thing that sucked was when i had the board like Fg. 1 the rope kept slamming my fingers into the top of the wakeskate, that hurt like a son of a beach.
btw my former name was fromthesouth

i had the same problem...this weekend would have been my first time wakeskating, but my uncle who was giving me the pulls "didn't get it" and was taking off way to hard, ripping the handle from my hands. at least i think that is why i couldn't get up. he was pissed at me and i was pissed at him so i just said fck it i'll learn some other time.
i still had a fun ass time trying to get up though!! _________________

yes, i can wakeboard quite well but haven't since last year. for some reason the wakeboard seemed easier.

Urinal mint (I like that name ), when you're getting up, keep your knees tight into your chest and your arms around your knees. Basically, you'll want your body position to be pretty tight and compact. (since you're just starting--and you'll almost be balled up). Once you figure it out, you'll be able to relax a bit. And I think someone else said this, but dont' stand up until you're completely out of the water.
Hopefully that helped. It's odd trying to explain some things when you don't really have to think about them anymore.
by the way, the prop on that boat is CRAZY! _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Does everyone lay back all the way like that when they get up
I've always just started in a crouched vertical position with the skate under me, point my toes up a little, and just rise to the surface... always keep the rope in close to you _________________ √ |
