Team Kampus At The Projects - Videoby: Buttermag.com
Since their headquarters is located in California, its not often that you have the whole Kampus team in Florida. But after a succesful presentation at this years Expo, team manager extraordinare Duane Pacha decided to flip the bill for the team to stay in Orlando an extra week and get some riding time at The Projects. A perfect opportunity for me to get some footage and learn the latest west side lingo from pro rider Leif Erkkila.
At the Projects the vibe is always good and relaxed, thanks to the way Pat Panakos runs the show. Frequently visited by the big names, you never know who will be making a cameo appearance. And i believe its the feeling of freedom one experiences when entering this enormous site, that makes it the most popular setting for pro riders and film makers to get their groove on.
Walking along the shore line of their huge private lakes you will find the remains of some of the most legendary sliders ever featured in films and magazines. Nostalgia. Every time i visit the Projects cant help to wonder why isnt this place more popular among non professional riders and wake enthusiasts. And even though i wouldnt change a thing about this place, maybe it needs to incorporate the word "camp" into the name. Something like Camp Project. Ok maybe not.
But back to the Kampus team story. One of my favorite things about this team is their attitude. They dont have any. Often pro riders carry one everywhere they go. But not these heads, they were having a good time and enjoying the fact that the team was together; all their different personalities blending like a fine cocktail. Take Steve Wahlman for example, the guy is mellow like yellow. But once he gets on the skate he explodes with enthusiasm. Clint Tompkins charges the big frame like it couldnt hurt him while the young gun George rode fluidly and effortlessly. Ryan Doyle bitch slapped the slider like if he rode there every day. But then again he does, he has been coaching and building the Projects website during the last couple of months. Cant wait to see it. If it is as good as his riding, it will make your computer freak out. I know i did that day, check out the flick and see for yourself.
