Ben Horan, Andrew Pastura and Silas Thurman have been working hard for over a year to design a durable wood concave wakeskate, and create a brand riders can believe in. Now the Remote wakeskate brand and team has a loyal following, and all of their hard work has paid off as they're getting ready to send their first batch of boards out to shops. To learn more about Ben's new pro model before it hits the shelves, read on to find out what went into his first wakeskate from Remote.
Describe the design features on your pro model wakeskate. (The concave, kicktails, edge/rail profile, etc.)
Ben: The boards are a lot different than most boards I have ever rode. The concave has a perfect feel to it, so even when you are just riding around you can feel the concave under your feet. And it's really good for flicking your flip tricks. The nose and tail flow really good with the outline of the board, which is a quality I don't see often in other boards.
What performance features were you trying to achieve while designing your pro model?
Ben: I really wanted something that flips really good and spins really good. Most of the time it's one or the other, but with our rocker line and concave it gives it everything you would want in a board!
There's been some talk about Remote's rocker line. What makes it different from other wakeskates out there, and what do you like about it?
Ben: It's fast! We found out a way to make the boards really fast and pop even better. I really like this because I can ride 3 times longer because I am not dieing to hold onto the handle.
The Remote team is recognized for their abilities on rails and natural terrain as much as anything else. What did you guys do to ensure the boards would withstand your level of riding and the abuse your boards go through?
Ben: We went with wood. And we went with building our boards in the USA. It's pretty crazy how long our boards have been holding up. I don't know how he is building our boards...well, I do know how he is building our boards! Haha...
For someone who's looking to buy a new wakeskate, what would you want them to know about the Remote line?
Ben: It's always going to be fresh. And we've got your back! We have been testing boards for a year and a half now, so you can believe these are the best boards you can buy.
Finally, what's the story behind your graphic concept?
Ben: We just wanted to do something different and make it have an old theme to it. I went with the penny-farthing because I am a bike dude, and I have always been a fan of the big wheel. We are going to have lots of graphics come out, [and] I am stoked to have it where we will have something fresh every couple of months!
