Wakeskating was all Hair at Australian Pro Tour
Maryville, Tenn. (February 13, 2007) – The final round of the 2007 Australian Pro Tour of Wakeboarding wrapped up in Brisbane, Australia last weekend with an outstanding turnout of competing riders from all around the world. One of those riders, Austin Hair, a Supra-sponsored rider from the United States, was crowned overall champion of the wakeskate division.
Riders from Australia, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and other countries competed in this year’s Australian Pro Tour of Wakeboarding, which included four rounds, each occurring in various Australia locations. Brisbane, the fourth and final stop of the competition saw champions crowned in the men’s division, women’s division and a separate wakeskating division.
Throughout the four rounds of the wakeskating competition, Austin Hair managed to place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Hair’s total score was plenty to name him the overall wakeskating champion of the 2007 Australian Pro Tour. “It is an honor just being able to compete amongst some of the best wakeboarders in the world,” said Hair. “Especially a competition set in Australia, not only will you see local pros, but riders from all around the world flock here because of Australia’s reputation and beautiful location. It would be crazy to have passed up this opportunity!”
“Austin has been on the Supra pro-staff since last year, and it’s been a true pleasure seeing him grow every step of the way,” said Jay Warren, Supra’s Team Manager. “His drive and focus to be the best among the best is a quality we’ve seen in him from the beginning. Not only is he a proven wake skater, but his 2nd place finish in wakeboarding at the Australian tour stop in Sydney signals he’s ready to compete at the highest level in both disciplines.”
At 19-years-old, Hair has seen repeated success in his short career as a pro rider. In 2004, Hair proved he was a force to be reckoned with as he won titles in Junior Men wakeboarding and Pro wakeskate at the USA Wakeboard Nationals, also being named USA Wakeboard’s Male Athlete of the Year. Hair has also seen wakeskating victories at the 2005 USA Wakeboard Nationals in Australia as well as the 2005 WWA World Championships in Spain.
“Wakeboarding has been in my blood ever since I was a kid,” added Hair. “Without riding, I wouldn’t feel complete.”
Since its inception in 2003, The Australian Pro Tour of Wakeboarding remains the peak wakeboard contest series of the southern hemisphere, having gained true international respect amongst the wakeboarding elite.
