Ok I am thinking about learning to skateboard over the summer as well as wakeskating to go along with my wakeboarding. I was going to get a blank CCS deck because they look reliable but cheap. Got any idea's of what else I need(Trucks, Wheels and all that other jazz)? Or just a setup in general.
Thanks

You're going to hear nothing but peoples' opinions here
But I say if you have a legit skate shop in your area, go there first. Blank decks are fine. I personally like Bones wheels, they are the only wheels I've ever had that haven't flatspotted (even the other brands that say they don't flatspot, have failed me). Bones bearings are good if you stay out of water and clean off the shields with a Q-tip every couple weeks, but most bearings work fine. I like Independent trucks, they have strong kingpins (which tend to break often on trucks). Hardware and everything else is pretty trivial. Just take care of your stuff and you'll do good. _________________

wakeboarderdave, start somewhere between 7.75 and 8 inches wide. Length should be 32 or more. _________________

i would say get a 8.0 a 7.5 will be too small. my opinion on boards is an almost they are cheap and reliable, also work good for flip tricks. get tensor trucks and really an hard wheel |

Both pairs of Tensors that I had warrantied after prematurely breaking my original pair = crap.
Hard wheels (as in 101a) work nice if you ride smooth pavement all the time, but get way too chattery if you are riding anything that wasn't paved last week (like in the northwest). 97a or 99a are great all around wheel hardnesses. _________________

wakeboarderdave, don't listen to 4327849217 or whatever. Almosts and Tensors are shizzle. Get a 7.75 - 8.0 since you are a tall dude with some pretty big feet i'm sure. As for deck companies, Foundation, Toy Machine, AWS, Habitat - All great boards. Listen to el about the wheels. My personal favorites are Autobahn and Darkstar. Most of my friends are fine with spitfire, but i had some and they wore down like fizzle crazy. Venture trucks are awesome. Very tight turning radius if you ride loose. Also if you plan on ever skating rails or ledges a lot you might want to check in on some Krux Downlows due to the low kingpins. Bones Reds bearings are cheap and reliable... awesome. _________________ - Evan Molina |

the perfect setup is whatever gets you rollin, that said Bearings are the foundation for getting your ride dialed. Everything else can change but as long as you got quality bearings you are pretty much good to go. _________________

Jesse, I have to disagree, the most important thing imo is Wheels. Get shiznackle wheels and you just won't roll smooth and nice. _________________ - Evan Molina |
