There was some talk about style the other week. If you don''t have, you will never have it.

Style is something you just can't decide one day to change or add. It just comes naturally.

I am speaking from experience, I have no style or class.

i would have to agree but would like to think differntly.
you can see it a lot in skateboarding/wakeskating as well as (???) midget figure skating. i mean "smaller persons of equal stature.."

I guess my style is just riding in itself, i just do what i do and not try to make things look good, but perfect the technique im using to make the manuover or trick im doing better for myself so when i ride i can sorta flow with the music from the boat, ripples in the water, and what im thinking about at that time, if so happens it looks good then thats how it looks. I dont like to be the one that can do the most tricks, i wanna be the guy thats just consistant with my riding and stays with the style i started with and get pumped off the riders around me to up my progression not only for my self, but the sport in general

style... is not the action... it is way it is preceived.
a trick can be very hard to do do but you can make it look easy.
know one knows the effort, but sees the results. seeming effortless
(but in the case of trying to lift a car... ???)

That is innate style right there, that is not taught, not tried,

SkateForce,

google is your friend

1. Possessed at birth; inborn.
2. Possessed as an essential characteristic; inherent.
3. Of or produced by the mind rather than learned through experience: an innate knowledge of right and wrong.

style comes with love like skateforce said its all about just flowing with the mood your in at the time I'm not saying I got made style but in my oppion thats what is all about. It is one thing to force it and pull it compare to making look like it aint shizzle. I think a shuv popped 2-3 foot out in the flat looks better then a kickflip with the tail 6" out of the water.

style really comes with your understanding of wake dynamics and just your attitude when you are riding. it helps alot to understand why certain tricks react the way they do so you can apply them for different situations. another thing is never just ride in a straight line looking all pissed off.

style or techniques.... there seem to be two differnt things going on. (to me...)
style seems to be the nature of what you are doing, but not what you are doing???
learnig to do tricks or even be sloppy, can be done in style??? (opinion..)

jacque_mehoff, nice try on using SkateForce's quote to argue the innate side, but in your quote SkateForce mentions "perfect the technique" and he says he wants to be consistent. this takes time and practice, and so it can be argued that style may not be innate, but instead is a result of practice and repetition. the repetition and eventual mastery of tricks may be what causes style, and not necessarily something youre born with.

but in the end fat kids have no grace. and it takes a fatty to give birth to a fatty, so there may be hope for your innate argument afterall Laughing
