for those of you looking to make an industrial motor powered winch check out the deal that just came in my email, this isnt the motor I use, but for a do-it-your selfer its a new powerplant for cheap, you guys are on your own to find a centrifugal clutch, I hate those and aint looking for one lol

i don't think 3,900 h.p. will even pull deep water starts though. there are tecumseh engines all over e-bay for around the same price. they will rev up to 5,000 r.p.m.'s, with a little modifying to the governor. still pretty damn cheap.

that i'm not sure. on my briggs, it's right behind the choke control box. i just need to mod the linkage. 3,900 r.p.m.s will pull you across the water(with the right gear ratio) but not deep water with a centrifugal clutch. i'm bout to spice mine up with a torque convertor. Wink

where did you get a 13 hp engine for 200... i was looking at 10 hp engines on ebay and they were goin for more than 300... RedXIII, the ones i was talking about were brand new but your probably right about it not being a brand name... would that really make a difference?

what other engines should i be looking for aside from briggs on ebay? i have found a few 6.5-20hp brigg's engines in the $100-$400 range on ebay, but are there other factors to consider w/ the engine besides the hp rating?

big_dee45, why would they need to be vertical... you can use almost any kinda engine over 6.5 hp depending on how big you want the frame to be... yabu, a simple winch really dosnt require much, bare basics are steel tubing, a spool, 500+ ft of rope, 2 sprockets, a clutch and chain... thats the simple way; if you want to get complicated the person to talk to is kento; he managed to make a winch that is much more effective and well rounded being able to pull at many different speeds for different riders. (but i also believe he spent alot more money in the process)

nottoldyet, on the winch im making im using a 17 tooth to 85 tooth ratio because of the size of my spool... it kinda varies though

TheLeprechaun, thats pretty much correct, I deffinately dont reccomend building my winch at home, thats why I scrapped the plans Idea, it takes too much technical know how, and unless your buying all the parts at wholesale it costs you roughly 3000.00 dollars to build my winch
