Nutty.
My prediction is that the o'brien's (which includes brian) will re-group and start up a new company/watersports project. Looking at herb's business history, and that lake that can't become useless, there's no way they'll just drop out.
It should be interesting to see what actually happens to hyperlite...I should imagine many riders would end up leaving at some point. I've heard some say (despite personal opinions) that paul is what made hyperlite kind of "cool." _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

WELL... every company under the Kent sports umbrella and their
... (antitrust) ... monopoly ... could be affected... what you are seeing is fall out quite possibly from something else...
The Obrien's will start something else for sure... Guaranteed... Once their non-compete clause runs out with their contracts...
..." The Decline of the Waterski Monopoly"... is upon us.
...Time for the ROC's to RISE...
My prediction is 2006 is going to be short a few wakeboard/wakeskates this year...
Then again this is just speculation and my opinion, so take it with a granule of salt or not. |

Schmaltz, I like how you got the plug in there.
But seriously, I think this is definately a good thing, much like skateboarding 1988-93. _________________

jboss, skating did not die during that era, I was there skating everyday on my H-Street, the larger companies fell apart and smaller companies took over. _________________

Jesse, Oh yea, you're right, it died around 1994 briefly. I thought it was right during when the modern shape of boards are today. _________________ I like to choke when my team needs me the most, no Romo. |

| integrity640 kent sports runs a number of the companies such as liquid force, hyperlite, obrien, jstar and maybe some more i'm missing there basically a sporting goods company who just invests for money. herb and paul were the orginal guys from hyperlite I beleive and kent sports kicked herb out and so I guess paul decided to go to. electric and other people will be able to correct me and add on to this some. |

So, here's a situation: many people have been waiting for this...but, are these "ROCs" ready to support/float the wakeskating industry? When smaller companies either had financial issues or just didn't produce a huge number of boards, you have to admit that hype/lf helped support a lot of riders...
anyway, it's just something I've thought about. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

jobe = owned by kent sports
jstar = separate company owned COMPLETELY by herb o'brien (been confirmed to me by an extremely reliable source who would know)
so, ROC groupies, if herb and paul start their own new wakeboard company, would it be an ROC? granted, while not at the level of a thomas or schmaltz (much respect to both, by the way), technically paul is a rider and has the respect and admiration of a great deal of professional wakeboarders. |
