You all know i got a new sub. BUt i need help cuz i thhink i blew it already . My amp is 300rms and my sub is 200rms and i have been pushing it to the limit these past few days and it has been cutting out everyso often. This morning it cut out then went to normal then totally went silent. After like 6 hours i tried it again and it gave out 2 bass hits then nothing since. How do i tell if i blew my sub? I know it is not the amp cuz i hooked my old stock speakers to the amp and they worked. So just wondering how i know if i blew my sub. Thnx _________________

might have fried the voice coil. when everything is turned off, try pushing on the sub in the middle with your hand and see if its a smooth push or if stuff is preventing you from pushing it in.
my guess is the voice coil and when that thing starts burning up, it doesn't stop burning until it's gone.
i know you're excited about your new stuff but you might want to educate yourself fully on ratings and ohms or you're going to be getting replacing stuff quiet frequently. |

Well if your amp is 300 watts RMS and the sub is 200 watts RMS, that means you are constantly running 100 watts more to the sub then it can handle.
p.s. -- It's blown. Get Infinity Reference series, there affordable and thump like Parky's mom on a Monday Night. And Tuesday night, and wednesday... |

urinal mint, k thnx man. Your right too. I mean, i studied my ass off on this stuff for like a month i think and learned everything i THOUGHT i should learn. And i wasn't going to turn it up, cuz i new turning the volume up to high would screw the sub up, but when i heard that thumpin I had to get more, and i got greedy and pushed it to far. _________________

I had everything torn apart and found nothing wrong so i put it back together and i turned it on and nothing happened so i went back and pressed on the sub to see if there were any vibrations at all then WHAM it started goin and i freaked and pulled my hand away and it stopped again. Then i pressed on it and it started goin, it would keep goin as long as it hit my hand when the cone moved outwards but as soon as i took my hand away it stopped. Ever heard of anything like this? _________________

| Dude, you probably just have a loose connection somewhere in your wiring. You pressing down on the sub is probably completing the circuit, thus allowing the sub to hit. |
