Just bought a new 3 seater Yami jet ski to skate behind. I have skateboarded before for years but have not picked up a board in awhile. I want to get into wakeskating and was wondering what to buy. I am looking at a hyperlite scape 112. I figured get a mid sized board so my friends can ride it and asumed it may be easier to learn on.
Now for ropes and handles ..I need help here?? I was going to get a accurate byerly sig handle but didnt know if I should get a normal, T or a V shape? Also an recomendations for a decent priced rope? |

I would also go for a a K39, but it may be a bit too small to have all your friends be able to give it a go...
Best bet would be a Cassette flat. I know the second batch of flats has been done for a while and are available at most online/local stores. A cassette flat 41 or 42 could work out great.
I wouldn't go for a carbon handle either, if the byerly is still like that tho, dunno.
I have a Nevin one and just love it, very light, wide and the material is niiiiiice. I think it's the Collin Wright model _________________

I don't think the byerly handle was carbon. I think only grubb and parks' handles were carbon.
Anyway, I really don't think you need a handle with a t or v "vandal" handle. I bought one when I was really into wakeboarding and I wanted to learn wrapped spins and such, but that really isn't done much in wakeskating (maybe ca. 1998). Point blank, if you think it will be of use to you, buy it. I'm pretty sure those extra handles cost more than a standard handle, so that's something to take into consideration.
Also, when you buy a mainline, make sure it's low or non stretch. If you have a stretchy slalom handle, you lose energy in the rope and it could snap back and hit a passenger. I'm not sure how hard you'll be edging right away, but it's still important with regards to the whole "lost energy" thing.
Anyway, have fun! I think it's really cool that you're getting into wakeskating because of the jetski and your skate background. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

I would go with a kampus maybe. Really any board is good to start out on. Gator makes some nice concaves.
I rode an LF Armada the other day and really liked it. Felt like I was riding a skate deck on the water. I got really close to landing a kickflip on it, it just spins soo nice. |
