Kavanagh, I have a pair of 1.5 plastic fins and we gorund them down to .5, we didnt bother much with shaping them, so they are basically like measuring up from the base .5 and cutting the rest off, belive it or not they holf just right for me on my old K-39 and they are very rugged just a thought, and cetainly a cheap alternative to buying fins
EDIT: I made another set for my friends fourtrac, its an 03, and he still uses them to this day, he pretty much swears by em _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |

I feel the same way as you guys, I don't like fins that are even 1 inch deep, but I want to "stay honest" and have a tiny bit of tracking. I like the long base fin idea... I could get my hands on some equiptment at my job and try to make a pair out of Corian (plastic stuff they use for counters). I doubt it's anywhere near as stiff and durable as carbon fiber or aluminum but if they worked and stayed on the board I would be happy... Any imput on this idea? _________________

um, ok so kento911, u cut just like the tip of ur fin off so instead of it being rounded its just like Flat? sounds like a good idea, I have lots of time to shape them perfectly cuz i live at my cottage all summer and its in hickville. there not much to do except shape fins andd wakeskate of course. lol what do u think of those like hollowed out fins or the one ones with the cutouts? i agree with you guys i want to have some grip on the water if u kno what i mean, i dont wanna go finless _________________ Like my boat?

Following up... one thing I remembered about long base fins is that you need another screw or something to support both ends of it, which on a standard wakeskate would probably mean drilling an extra hole... so maybe they wont be so long. But shorter depth is still in...
As for hollowing out your fins, unless they're aluminum, I wouldn't try it. They don't have much structure and would probably snap the first time you under-rotated a trick. _________________

el, i dont think you would need to drill another hole. the integs have one "support" hole on either side of the screw hole so i think it would be fine. nonetheless im gonna grab a few extra fins from the shop that arent being use and maybe try some stuff with them. the gator fins have a long base...reeeeal long. i think they are of the two holed variety though. if so then that would be no bueno. we'll have to see.
im still curious as to how .5 inch fins would work out. i might have to ground down some fins to see how short they can get before i ground it down to the screw hole. oh well...i could use a nice little dyi project. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

I have two old 2" cassette fins that i'm gonna grind down to about 0.75"...i'll let you know how it works out...if anyone knows of a really kickass fin design, please post pics...i know someone who makes fins (carbon fibre or fibreglass resin) and they look dope...but if there's a good design, i'll get him to clone some for me
edit: anyone who's gonna grind down their steez, make sure you don't go too far...don't forget about the thread inserts
