|
|
YAY!!! Another Winch Topic, how wonderful right? Sorry for another thread but I need fellow wakeskater's thoughts and intelligence.
As far as engines go, what would be a minumum Horse Power number to pull a 135 lb. rider up and out of the water and keep a consistent speed of about 20 miles per hour. I have access to a VW Van Engine and could get a 8 hp engine for very very cheap, but after reading and poking around it looks like it would have to be about 30 hp. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks in advance

i'd say um the VW van engine would be pretty good, but maybe shop around for a 400cc + atv or buggy engine they would be kinda noisy but it would get the job done and they arent too expensive _________________ Like my boat?

| I forgot to mention the few problems about the VW Van engine, runs but needs some work. But I don't have a job so I have time to work on it to make it run well. Also it doesn't have a tranny, but one 2 hour trip to the Junk Yard could easily fix that. Still A LOT of work would have to be done with the VW engine, so I am leaning towards a horizontal engine. But you winch experts know more than me about what would work best so any more .02 cents could help.[/b] |

I'd do the 8HP, that should be plenty.... think about those little 5HP go carts that ya ride around on... you're not even spinning machinery, it's just winding in a rope essentially... the VW one sounds like more of a hassle than it's worth PLUS it's bigger than the 8HP one so make it a pain in the ass to bring it anywhere to use it... _________________ -Rob-

at 135 I dont think youll have a problem with any motor 6hp and over, thats extremely light, I would still go with the 8hp, and keep in mind erikn, and Rob, have what is essentially an automatic trans on theres so they can get away with less hp, b/c it has variable gearing _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |

we tried using a 16 HP riding lawn mower the other day when the ditches were flooded.. and it pulled, but not enough for me to be totally on top of the water.. It work'd out great for my buddy who is probably 50 or so lbs lighter than me tho! _________________ -Rob-

yeah the riding lawn mower.. we were rappin out in 9th gear, full throttle at like 10 mph---just barely enough for skimmin speed, I was more draggin than anythign else... hahaha it was pretty haggard! but fun for a rainy day..
btw thanks for the compliment on the trucks _________________ -Rob-

MUCHADO, well the problem with a riding mower, is that it is geared wrong for what you want to do, plus it has to pull its own weight plus yours, not to mention the fact that you lose horsepower through loss of traction with the tires, fo rthat I highly reccomend a V-6 ford explorer 4x4, we used that to ride behind for a long time, until it got flipped over in an accident _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |

XR 50's are the shizzle, I am going to try and convince my dad to get me one for my 16th birthday.
Edit: I forgot to ask, would a 6.5 hp be strong enough. |

getting pulled by a pit bike can be ticky. The bike needs to be aligned with what u are riding. I mean if the bike is along the shores and pulling you sideways, as soon as you edge out you'll just pull the bike in the water with you
But it could work... I need to try that with my DRZ110 ^^ _________________
