I've wakedboarded a few times and snowboarded a few times. Did exceptionally well at snowboarding but haven't had enough time to wakeboard as much as I would like.

I've looked for a beginner's FAQ around here but didn't seem to find one so I just wanted to ask a few questions.

stats:
5 11''
180lbs

I've looked at the kampus boards and thought about buying one of those for starting out, is that a bad choice?

How do you go about picking the right size board for your height/weight?

This is quite a noob question but I'm guessing you have to wear shoes? Do really any shoes work or what?

I plan on buying a board with foam but just need a few pointers/suggestions to get me started.

TIA

From what I have gathered in the past few months...(anyone correct me if I am wrong about anything)...

1) Kampus's are good boards to start out with, many people like the K-39 (which I have)

2) pretty much personal preference but with the bigger you are the more you should look into getting a bigger board

3) shoe's are not neccessary, that's what the foam is for, many people prefer riding WITH shoes though

oo and ..try checking out the search button Wink

Yeah, I know I should have searched. I know how big of a PITA noobs can be but I got a little lazy TBH:)

I was looking at picking up a kampus board and a set of DVS shoes to get me started.

I did a search for beginner's but didn't really see what I was looking for.

Thx for the reply.
PS- how tall are you?

fromthesouth, my suggestion is not to get shoes right away. Just wear an old pair or a pair that you don't wear to often. No need to spend ~$50 right away, unless you have the extra money and/or don't have an old pair of shoes.
The kampus board is going to be a great board for you to start on as well....enjoy the spoort.

fromthesouth,

The Kampus decks are relatively inexpensive so its a good starting point. You can pretty much use any old shoes you want. (skate or other)

is this the board?
http://www.evogear.com/productdetail.asp?pn=920

money isn't really a problem, i just don't want to spend money if i turn out not to like it(which i'm pretty sure i will) and new shoes are always great Razz

looking at these shoes:

fromthesouth,

Than in that case you should get an Integrity. They are more durable and wil last so much longer than wood skates. Check them out for yourself.

BTW, I'm just wnating to spend under $100 for my first board and if I take interest in the sport then I will step up to a nicer board.

Does grip tape or foam really matter? is one harder than the other? IMO, I would think grip tape would hurt your feet after a while?

Was there anything with the kampus board I posted above?

Its all preferance. I prefer grip, because the board is closer to your feet and more responsive.

or

Preferably...I would ride a Kampus before I ever got on a LF skate again.

LOL, if you are talkin about riding griptape without shoes i don't think you would last past 2 ollies. That would hurt like a beast... what does IMO mean?
