That's crazy! Glad to hear he's gotten sober. I loved the relaxed style Collin had when he rode. _________________ Without water one cannot live.

Honest question: Is there something cool about Collin Wright that I don't know? From what I know about him, he was a mediocre professional strapper, then he tried and failed at starting a wakeskate company, then he threw a bunch of people's boards into the bonfire at toejam. I mean that's cool that he no longer is addicted to heroin and all.. but what good has he done? _________________ - Evan Molina |

A mediocre professional strapper? Dude was busting on axis heel back 7s off the wake well over a decade ago.
He's done a ton for the sport. He was heavily involved with Double Up for many years, promoting free riding through the Double Up Experience.
He's been featured in many videos, magazines, and had multiple pro model boards.
He's also a very talented snowboarder and likely could have gone pro if he had wanted to.
He rode with a style all his own, doing only what he wanted to, with no focus on contests or trick passes.
Did I mention he's also just a really nice guy?
If that's mediocrity, I'll take it all day every day. |

You obviously have no clue as to what you're talking about or have been horribly misinformed. Collin's influence was far from mediocre, the guys impact on wakeboarding is huge. Just ask guys like Danny Harf... If it wasn't for guy's like Collin and a few others, wakeboarding would be purely flippy trampoline tricks without legit grabs or spins. shizzle most pro wakeboarders still can't grab a board in the right spot.
As for the whole fire incident at Toe Jam, Collin had nothing to do with throwing all those decks in the fire. Most everyone knows who did it, including Scott. So get your story straight.
Collin is doing extremely well, skateboarding a lot and going to college clean and sober. His drug problem stemmed from an experimental back surgery he had when we were kids. (He broke his back snowboarding). He has a lot of scar tissue in his back and has always fought with pain from the surgery, in the latter years it got out of control and he started self medicating with other drugs.
As for his snowboarding... Collin has always been a better at snowboarding than wakeboarding.
Messer is still climbing trees all over Portland, he and his family are doing well.
Josh Smith now lives in Portland as well.
I think Leatherman is still working for DVS but I'm not positive on that. _________________ arson-wake.com |

SCBrips, SleuCrew, Thanks for your answers. Sorry if my question was insulting, but that in fact was all I knew (or thought I knew) about Mr. Wright until now.

Collin just always had that "I'm not gonna throw raleys cause chicks like it" attitude. Nobody just rode the way they truly felt like this OG. Plus he was in a video game! I remember hearing about the fire at hippodrome/toejam. Didn't Walton protest or sumthing.
So Ryan Doyle is done in wakeskating? Someone told me he was testing sum CTRL wakeskates. _________________ Without water one cannot live.

i shouldnt hate or anything, but last year i read this article on Drew Mcguckin and he had a very bitter seeming attitude towards stuff, like for not recieving credit for lots of things. with that came a lot of patting himself on the back. obviously he has done lots for the sport, i just found it kinda weird the vibe the whole article had. |

No worries, I just hate seeing people get hated on that don't deserve it. I've known Collin since we were in the 7th grade and he's good people, always down to ride with just about anyone and has always pushed the fun in riding a board vs. what's cool at that time. Something very few "pro" wakeboarders have ever been known for. He never did great in contests because of that view, for some reason pro tour judges always seemed to think a mobe variation was harder than a bs 7 or a switch 5 with a solid grab... The logic in that still defies me!
Jamie, good to hear Jim has something new going on of his own.
I think Kyle's protest of the board fire had more to do with him still being wasted from the night before. That night was also Zak's birthday and we all partied pretty hard. _________________ arson-wake.com |

It was a complete nobody, I could tell you his name but it wouldn't make any difference cause you nor 99.9% of the rest of the world have any clue who he is.
It's old news and it's over. I just hate seeing Collin getting the rap for something he had nothing to do with. They just happened to end up in the fire by Collin's camp.
There were a lot of people that got blamed the next morning who were also camped in that spot including John Ruark and Jamie Eddy. A lot of people were "positive" it was Jamie Eddy but neither of them had anything to do with it. _________________ arson-wake.com |
