I don't know if anyone else has done it before but lately I've been thinking about making one of those cinder block rails that Ben made in the DIY video. Mainly cause it looked fairly simple and I wouldn't say I'm too industrially inclined.

The link to his DIY: http://www.wesubsist.com/video/diy-with-ben-horan/

I hear cinder blocks are real cheap so i think it would be a nice first rail. Hoping I can find a parking block on good old craigslist. Could probably steal one but I don't need bad karma going into this rail since its gonna be my first rail to hit.

Anyway what do you guys think I could do to the base do that I can make the rail 'portable'. Im thinking portable because my main spot to skate right now is a reservoir that has a concrete bottom with a foot of gushy mud on top.

im not sure if a rail that heavy can be portable. are there any canals around your house that you could put a rail in permanently? or one that you would only have to move a few feet to drop it in each time you ride?

Well it wouldn't really work at the spot I currently skate but soon I am moving and right behind my complex there is a creek. Maybe if I bury it with some sort of anchor it would work? It wouldn't have to be portable when I move but until then I didn't just want to leave it at my current spot.

If I do just leave it in the reservoir, how could I anchor it in the water if it's cinder block on cement that is in high water?

depends how deep it is, the concrete should be pretty heavy, the difference between the spot your describing and the two we've seen of bens is that his are out of the water, cement on cement, it might be a bit different when its all under water. I guess a perfect situation would be a creek or canal where in the winter the water level drops or is completely cut off, that would be ideal.

Don't they have underwater cement? Does anyone know how that works or if it would work?

Good question. I've been wondering this myself.

if you take an entire bag of cement and throw it in a lake and come back the next day it will be rock hard. so it will harden under water Very Happy

texasT, we can build a portable wood rail. The legs can be T'd at the bottom and we can anchor it in the mud with sand bags.
