get on a trampoline and learn them out of the water, this will save you alot of time frustration. Also if the board is only flipping around halfway upside it you might be flicking more out then down.
Its nothing like a skateboard flick, I almost think of flicking almost straight down and backwards towards me instead of outward.
Alot of times to when the board only flips around halfway its because while in rotation it hits you in the foot or ankle and the complete flip is stopped in motion. To Correct this you have to wait until the peak of your ollie and then flick it.
If you get on a trampoline to figure out the timing and the flick it will really help |

Yeah the way Ben does them is closest thing to a skateboard flick, I noticed he puts his foot farther back on the board, I started doing that and started landing them more consistently.
Thats how I try to do them, I still try and tell myself to flick straight down and almost backwards tho, maybe just a mental thing that helps me.
The Following is some of the results I get.

Thanks Zero, Yeah The way I have learned that works for me is the closest to all one motion as it gets.
One thing that really helps getting the downward flick dialed other than on a trampoline is just using a little skateboard deck on carpet. I put my foot farther down the board than some other people i think. I see alot of people that put their foot up near the pre-kick on the integs, that way doesnt work for me that well.
Another thing I do, is when I edge out i try and plant as much weight on my back foot as possible so that when i pop it really helps the board get as vertical as possible and stay out in front of me.
And Yes I do pre-pop, the screen grabs are shot in a frame rate that I guess kinda misses it. Its not a double pump pre-pop or anything crazy like, just a natural motion for an ollie that comes with trying to get the board as high up as I can when throwing it.
This is all Just my techniques i have concluded from trial and error, ALOT of trial and error. Good thing to do is practice ollies with your foot in kicklfip position, if you haven't done many its feel funny trying them, but really helps |

Patric, A few things that i noticed when i was working on k flips was this:
A. shoulder position is almost as important as foot position
a lot of people generate a lot of problems from squaring your shoulders towards the boat instead of the direction that they are edging. This put your shoulders and body always face "behind" or slightly backwards when doing the trick
B. The later you start the "flick" the better.
remember that most boards are 14-16 inches wide so they have to be at least that high out of the water before they can have a successful rotation.
C. (personal tool) imagine making a nike swoosh with your foot to help the spin.
This means going up then swooping it down and bringing your foot back towards you a little. This just helped me get the board in front of me more and not have the sticking issue that you referenced
D. keeping your handle in
If you are able to keep your handle position proportional to where the rest of your body is it, it will help your core not go out of whack when you try the elusive k flip..
Hope some of this helps _________________ -andrew- |

Andrew MassIVE - Very good tips
For along time my problem was the shoulder issue, not keeping them in the direction your going is super crucial.
When doing them in/out behind ski the board will fly away from you every time if you dont keep your chest opened up and your shoulders in the direction your headed. |

greyskater, that last one was it!
the biggest thing that i saw that you were more concerned in getting the board out in front of you rather then trying to hit the board. If you look at your hips at the time of the flick your almost doing a poked ollie sort of speak. Try moving your foot back and angling it a little more and that should help you compensate for the wind taking the board so you don't have to huck out in front of you so hard. you have it though. If you hit the board a little bit harder that thing will magically put around under your feet!
likwidfolife, amen. I have hundreds of i/o attempts on film where i have done just that. I think its good that you brought up i/o before i did because inside out DEFIANTLY HELPS. If you are going to go i/o though make sure your body direction is good and you wait even longer! if you huck it to early you better have horan catches or be some magic board fairy
POPTART, all of our k flip attempts were horrible once _________________ -andrew- |
