iPhone 3G unlock help

I have a 3G running 4.2.1. I used pwnage to jailbreak it with the custom firmware. Downloaded ultraslow. I want to use it on t mobile. Do I need to install sbsettings? Also, what are the things I need to change to make it work ? Any help would be much appreciated. Every site says diff things with missing links. I want it untethered also.

Won't go into details , but now my phone won't restore and has the 'iPod cable going into iTunes logo' get error 1604 and another one I forgot.
