Hey a question to you winch guru's out there...
I tried out the winch yesterday after we finsihed my A Frame rail and it didnt seem to get up to spped fast enough. Top speed was pretty good (about 22), but it took off slow (we were starting off the shore sitting down to avoid a full deep water start, instead of off of a starting deck im used to at a rail jam).

Oh and its a 6.5hp with a 12 sprocket and 60 sprocket with a 7.5" spool ID (havent removed the govenor yet though) Sad

if you increase the spool diameter you'll pick up more top end speed but you'll lose some torque so starting will be a little tougher, take off the govenor first so you get higher RPMs and see how that does for you, your gear ratio (5:1) is good

running at higher rpm's isn't going to help you build torque. run at a 5.5:1 gear ration (i.e. 66 tooth sprocket) and you will get more torque. THEN take off your governor so you can still get a high top end speed.

rob is right, I misread the original question, I thought his top end speed was the complaint

Thanks i appreciate your guys help, my thoughts were to bump the sprocket up to a 66 as well so im glad you confirmed that one for me, but ive tried to research on how to remove the govenor (6.5hp Harbor freight engine) but cant seem to figure that one out. . . Any ideas on that??
