I will be buying a jetski this summer and can spend no more than $3500 for one. Does anyone have any suggestions for which ones to look at and how many hours should I be looking at as well. _________________ Being on the water just makes life better |

great posts guys.
KCrider, The biggest mistake i made when i bought my Yamaha was that it was too powerful with too sensitive a throttle. It was super hard to drive. Also, i wasn't a fan of the throttle's location. That's not to say Yamaha is bad, but the one i got (xl1200) was not quite the best to pull with. The i/o and lip were great, but that's about it. Hopefully someone else can give a better insight on other waverunner models.
The thing about SeaDoo is that they're super available, and for the most part comfortable to drive. When you're looking at older models though (which you will be, for your price range), be careful to not get one that's got too much HP. It's only in the past few years that people have realized that we actually ride behind these things. In the older models i've noticed that the higher the HP, the more difficult it's been to keep a consistent speed. _________________ - Evan Molina |

1997 seadoo gtx 110hp. paid $2000 for it which is a little high but i bought it from a guy who worked for nasa so he took amazing care of it. The main thing is you have to test drive it if not i wouldnt waste my time looking at it also if the people who are selling it have teenage kids because if they do you know that thing has been ridden hard.
also if your handy look for a ski with a carburetor rather then fuel injected because they are much easier to work on yourself and seem to be have less problems.
iv noticed that older yamahas have super sensative throttles and a high powerband so it is hard to keep at a constand speed like Slapdown said and with seadoo there are parts everywhere for them. |

Pre '98 sea-doo gtx's are secks. I've been rocking my '94 for 17 years and its still running strong. Super reliable. Never an issue other than normal maintenance. _________________ When it rains, it pours. |

I would go with a yamaha vx110, they are commonly used as rental jet ski's because they are very well known for their dependability.
Whatever you do don't get a 2-stroke ski, with your budget of $3500 you should be able to find something 4-stroke 2003 or newer.
The yamaha vlx deluxe is a great ski too but im not sure if you could find one for $3500, but if you can go for it. My homie woodyfarmer had a yamaha ski and we rode behind that thing for 3 summers put around 200 hrs on it and all he ever did was change the oil in it. Yamaha = Bullet proof
BTW the sooner you buy one now the better the deal your gonna get, things will start to go up in price as the weather gets warmer |

elaborate.
I have two sea-doos. '94 gtx 2 stroke and '03 gtx 4 stroke. My 4 stroke is my backup because it's more of a pain and breaks more than my 2 stroke. The only thing i can really say about my 4 stroke is that it doesn't use as much gas. _________________ When it rains, it pours. |

DO NOT BUY A SEA DOO.
I have owned both and Yamaha is far more reliable. Get a 4 stroke. The VX110 is a great ski for riding off of it is very stable and has more than enough power to pull up any rider. Yamaha is probably the most stable ski on the market in every way. |

Volcomstone167, I have that ski too. Never a problem. Powerful, stable and consistent. Also a nice inside/out, especially with an extra rider on the back. |

i just don't like sea doo's slogan of "good for 10 years." i really liked the super charged honda i used to get to ride behind, minus the 25 hour break in period. does anyone else think jet ski's are lame if not used for skating or getting chase footage? _________________ "I said take me to the sea, cause that is where I want to be.
