Wakeskating tricks were again the best part of the awards. Every wakeskater that was nominated just throws down some of the best tricks. Thomas from Cassette was on the stage to present tonight. Great seeing him at the event.

tad, what do you disapprove of specifically? Videos/video section winners?

I'll be honest, I'm not going to support a film if I think it's crap, even if a rider produced it.

Congratulations to matt, reed, the golden bear and grubb for their respective achievements. I think bryan could have won photog. of the year last year, so I'm happy to see he came out on top this year.

"Best Wakeskate Video Performance: Brian Grubb "Out of the Pond""

Question does this really top Travis Doran or Andrew pastura's parts in Fun Boots?

i kinda don't think so, but i have yet to see brian's part. anyone have an opinion on that?

My opinion is that the Lord of the Rings trilogies are great movies, but they are a bit too long!

I wouldn't put travis doran's section as number 1, but I also would not have put grubb's section first, either. As far as voting goes, there's more to consider than just the riding; you're supposed to consider editing and things like that as well.

That said, I still would have expected andrew pastura to win.

I never said I disapproved anything. I just think there are a few wakeskaters that worked VERY hard this year, progressed the sport tremendously (not w2w late shuvs and acid drops) and gave winching a whole new meaning. I mean just look at all of the trick of the year nominees.

Matt's tricks were insane and he definitely deserved trick of the year, he's been shredding. That varial flip out was perfect.

They specifically said in the criteria for wakeskater of the year, that the rider should have been well rounded and did good in contests, video parts and photos. Reed didn't even have a video part this past year. He's a contest rider.

And best wakeskate video performance? What did they judge that on? Who had the best tropical locations or biggest A-frame? Did they even watch Andy's part in Fun Boots?

With that one line post I expected you were referring to something specific. A comment like that rarely comes out of nowhere.

And I'm not trying to say that I agree with every winner in every category. Reed has had media coverage (not just from contests), but I agree that the video aspect is not what others have had. the only section I can really think of that might have counted for something was his appearance in first breath. Though aside from that, I think there are a number of riders that could potentially be the wakeskater of the year. I know you feel strongly about andrew and he's well deserving, but I don't feel at all bad that reed won it. I thought he really deserved it last year.

As for the video performance category, that's probably the one result I don't agree with. I think grubb's section is entertaining, but it's still very "grubb" (not in a bad way) and technically, it's not what other riders were able to put together over the past year.

editing/filming/quality of out of the pond > editing/filming/quality of fun boots

grubb's riding in out of the pond < andrew's riding in fun boots
