I am new to wake skating. I have been wakeboarding for years. I'm not the greatest wakeboarder, but I can go wake to wake and carve around and basic ollie tricks. I have started wake skating on a Liquid Force Faction 44. I can't seem to hold the board straight. I know a lot of it has to do with the board, I have been researching better boards but they all seem to be shorter. Right now I am having to use a jet ski to go as I am in between boats. I weight 200-210 pounds and my ski seems to have a hard time pulling me up now. If I go to a smaller board is this going to affect my ability to get up? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Do I need a longer board or will shorter and better quality board be better for me? Thank you.

a 44 is a gigantic board! get something smaller. maybe you should blame the driver on it being hard to get up?

a 42 or even a 41 would be a lot better for you, and your jetski probably doesnt have that much HP to be pulling your weight up as quick as it should

Sorry man but it's just your getting up. Beginners tend to get up harder (go figure). Because you haven't quite built the technique to get up lighter and with less effort. The board has little-to-nothing-at-all to do with it. Now. If your ski is pretty weak, that could be an issue. But again in the long run it's about technique and learning how to get up light. By no means is it a bad thing on your part and I'm not trying to.. Put you down or anything. Just saying it will come with time and practice, but there's no need to change your setup.

But yeah. 44" is pretty huge haha Laughing

Slapdown is correct; it's mostly about technique. I'm almost 200 lbs, and I can get up on a 39" skate with no problem. Although, I have a boat with a big engine pulling me, so that probably helps.

mojo, What if he's 7'9" and anorexic ? Shocked

GLawrJrwake, Like OverEasy and Slapdown said, it's more important that you refine your technique and sensitize your awareness, but I would definitely recommend finding yourself a smaller skate... 44" is huge!
