|
I made another thread, "which boat would you pick", because i was torn between 2 boats i wanted.....now i've got a 3rd option:
A 2008 Sea-Doo 150 Speedster. It's got 255 HP, has a deeper 'V' hull design, has three seats side-by-side, and one forward facing back. It comes with waketower and trailer. It's got 0 hours and is brand new from 2008.
Here's my questions on these things:
I'm 6'2'' and 200 lbs. Can this thing pull me up on my skate easily? What type of wake do they put out? How do they track, or handle with a 200 lb guy skating behind it? Do these things last, or do they break down alot?
I don't know jack about Sea-Doos, but i'm basically looking for something reliable and easy to manuever that throws a good wake for skating, that a few people could ride along in....is this a good craft for that?
Thanks dudes. _________________ "Whenever you find a man who says he does not believe in a real right and wrong, you will find this same man contradicting that a moment later."-CS Lewis |

225 hp can pull almost anything. _________________ Peace through firepower!! |

What about a guy my size edging out into the flats and back? Would the inertia pull the doo off track? _________________ "Whenever you find a man who says he does not believe in a real right and wrong, you will find this same man contradicting that a moment later."-CS Lewis |

I guess there's no W2W with a sea doo? I was thinking since this speedster is bigger and rides a little deeper that the wake may be a bit steeper than a regular sea doo.
Anybody have any experience with these speedsters? _________________ "Whenever you find a man who says he does not believe in a real right and wrong, you will find this same man contradicting that a moment later."-CS Lewis |

So does a PWC mainly produce the type of wake where the tricks go from inside the wake to the outside...as opposed to wakeboarding, where you edge from the flats and use the outside wake for pop?
I've never really even paid attention to the wake a PWC produces...and vids online are hard to see it, but it looks like it's all about from inside of wake to the outside for a PWC.
I'm really curious if the size/weight difference of these speedsters make a difference on the size of the wake. _________________ "Whenever you find a man who says he does not believe in a real right and wrong, you will find this same man contradicting that a moment later."-CS Lewis |

most wakeskaters ride i/o and flats with a pwc or say jon boat.
with a bigger boat people go w2w.
personal opinion atleast _________________

This thing will defiantly pull you out. Are you getting it from South Austin Marine? If so, tell Hunter to take out on a test run. I got to test drive one before I bought mine.
The motors are solid on these things. They use them on all of their vehicles, boats, skis, to snowmobiles. The rotax motor is the shizzle. _________________ http://trihawk.fotki.com

rockhouse, im 6' 185lbs and ride behind a 1999 kawasaki 1100zxi..its rated for 2 people max i think..but then again it tops out at 60mph
if i want to, i can steer the jetski from edging out hard but for the most part with average riding i dont affect steering unless i wana screw with a friend whose driving.. _________________ if theres no future in it, at least theres a present worth remembering.

Yep. South Austin Marine. It's a little 2008 speedster, 215 HP. They told me they'd take me out on it for a test run...i even asked them if i could skate behind it to see if i liked it.
But I think i understand now how you basically have 2 choices...you either do in/out/flat tricks behind a PWC type craft, or you get the steep wake with a regular boat. I never really knew much about PWC's and their wakes, but after really payin attention to some vids, i noticed.
It really makes it hard to decide what i want. It seems after awhile i'd get sick of the same old behind-the-boat tricks and wanna get my hard edge on with some air.
I need something thats in between an inboard boat and a PWC! _________________ "Whenever you find a man who says he does not believe in a real right and wrong, you will find this same man contradicting that a moment later."-CS Lewis |

i have never had a probelm behind a seadoo. i myself am 6'3" and 180 lbs. when i first started wakeskating i was right at 200 so it shouldnt be a problem. and not to mention im on a 1996 seadoo spx which is 85hp. check my profile for a picture of it. and ive been with oury many times behind a seadoo and i believe he is the same height. in my opinion, i love jetski over boat or winch because of the wake it throws. mine in particular is very lippy and makes for some good in/out tricks. just get out there and test it. ride anything you can and go from there. everyone has their favorites. mine has been very reliable over all since 1996. no problems other than buying gas/oil, and other regular maintenance. ive spent maybe 800 bucks on it getting it at its tip top shape just this past year but other than that i couldnt ask for more. _________________

| rockhouse, the type of boat your talking about is not a PWC, it's a Sea-Doo boat. Clint Tompkins, Beau Parker, and Charlie Hewitt ride behind one of these all the time, and they kill it! http://www.alliancewake.com/skate/signatureedit/ |

| a friend had an old sea doo like your talking about and it broke down alot...prob cause of how old it was. i love riding behind flats boats, mine is 21ft and throws a big enough wake to clear and they can get shallow. you also dont throw down as much money as you would for a wakeboard boat. id go jet ski or flats boat. |

Thanx for the pics dscsk8er....that wake looks alright!
I guess i'll ask you since you've got one...
Do you ever have problems with the jets sucking the line, or anything else in?
Can someone ride up in the bow, or will that cause the nose to dive?
Is there any type of rooster tail spray at all that gets in your face at the riding speed's?
How long will a tank of gas last if you're primarily just skating?
And are these things pretty easy to control as someone is skating?
Thanks alot bro.

| rockhouse, the jets only suck in the line if you run over the rope. Something you don't want to do with any type of watercraft. |
