a lot of (commercial winches) use tav kits and engines with more than 6hp
a tav kit is designed for up to 6hp engines
if you edge hard enough you can make a tav "downshift", so more power is useless i think
i can waterstart on my winches and be up to riding speed in +/- 20 meters (85kg on a wakeskate)
for beginners or heavy people waterstarting is difficult with 6.5hp and a tav
i think if you want a winch that makes it possible to waterstart for everybody you need a bigger engine but also a tav 20,30 or 40 (like the wakeskate bomb)
anybody any expercience with bigger engines and tav's?? _________________ http://www.wakeskating.nl/fullpull.html

my next winch will also have a 40 (or perhaps 30 series), a 9hp honda knock
do you have a releasable spool??
i pm-ed with the guys from wakeskatebomb, they told me you can run the line back, with a tav kit that is hard, suppose it is because you can play a bit with the tension of the belt _________________ http://www.wakeskating.nl/fullpull.html

Yeah I do I made it out of diamond plate steel and a piece of steel pipe that we had laying around _________________ Go Balls Deep Or Go Home |

martijn, i can only tell you what wakeskatedude probably has already told you. if you're using the larger tav-kits then you won't be needing a releasable spool. the tension of the belt is really loose when it's installed properly. it easily slips over the driven unit thus enabling you to pull out the rope with ease. pm wakeskatedude for some pics of our winch as you can see how loose the belt really is (when building the winch we even thought the belt was way to loose but it turned out to be just fine!).
good luck with your new project! |

i was thinking of using a comet gearbox but what i understand from bachlonso you dont need a releasable spool if you use a 40 series, what your experiense with that??

hope i works out fine althoug the 30 series looks exact like the kit i hope you wont need a releasable spool too (playing with belt tension will hopefully do the trick) _________________ http://www.wakeskating.nl/fullpull.html
