|
|
| Hey, i'm going to start wakeskating this summer and was wondering if it is harder than skateboarding? I can do the basic tricks on a skateboard, like the kickflip, pop shuvit, and 180. Since I have a basic skateboarding background, will that make it a ton easier to progress on a wakeskate? I'm just wondering what to expect when learning to wakeskate.

| I skateboarded for awhile before i wakeskated it definently helps knowing the tricks from skateboarding and knowing what to try to land and do first but just have fun and mess around

yeah skateboarding will defiantly help you a lot, and if you've ever wakeboarded before that helps too
the best part about wakeskating is that falling is fun and it usually doesn't hurt
welcome to the site

| Thanks, it's good to be here. Yeah, i've been wakeboarding for a while, but don't really take it that serious, just doing the w2w 180s, grabs, and what not. Wakeskating just seems like it'll be more fun to me, but I still plan to wakeboard.

i definitely wouldnt say falling doesnt hurt, ive gotten more messed up on a wakeskate than a skateboard
but what skating helps most with in my opinion, is style

I think the falls depend...falling on your shoulder in the water while wakeskating isn't the same as crashing on concrete, and I personally think that skating will always be gnarlier in that regard...but you still have to respect your medium and what you're riding. i always used to get a little freaked out when I thought about people who landed one foot on, one foot off on a wakeskate and destroyed their knees or their femur.
Anyway AbsoluteMonster, I think your background in wakeboarding and skating will definitely help you with your wakeskating. Wakeskating is still going to be different because you're working with a larger board and what not, but I think skating helps with muscle memory and things like that.

ive found practice throwing things in front of you because your going 20 mph on a wakeskate and need to throw things in front of you
