hey guys, new to site and wakeskateing, just wanting to say whats up. Ive been wakeboarding for awhile now, but just got a skate. Figured i would give it a try.
Not too sure on my skate though. HL 2008 Phriction 117.
Not sure about that grip on them. I read about about taking it off on and putting down grip tape someones thread.
I've checked around but no reviews except one, that said he didnt like the board. |

It doesn't matter what you have as long as there are no bindings. Now that you wont ever wakeboard again, welcome.
edit: Your phriction will do fine with some grip on it. _________________ The promise of heaven out of reach.

the point of getting a phriction is to get a board with some sort of kicktail on it (and sometimes, concave). With the phriction, the kicktail is shaped out of foam--that's the point of the foam top deck on that board. If you're going to tear the foam off, you might as well get some sort of flat deck and save yourself the money because that's what you'll turn that deck into. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

foam and grip tape both have good traction--it pretty much comes down to personal preference. A lot of people these days like grip tape, whether it be because of their "skate background" or the fact that foam absorbs the contours of the concave. The main reason people will like foam is because it's more forgiving on the body. If you ride grip, there's a reasonable chance you'll lose some skin on your legs or ankles more than once. But when you have a board that has a full on layer of foam to create a kicktail, it's not worth it to take it off because the purpose of that board is defeated. If you don't like foam, sell it and get a flat deck (which will probably have foam that you'll need to take off) or a wooden concave deck with grip. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

electricsnow, Thanks man. Thats what i needed to hear. I just didnt know if it would give good traction or not b.c i havent gotten to test it out yet due to winter. Im sure i will like it. I didnt know if were suposed to wear shoes or not or good traction. Just the questions i guess every newb asks
TTUFAN24, I would be interested in selling it for a good price _________________

truly, you could go without shoes. But you're going to get better support for your feet with shoes. When wakeskating first started, most riders went without shoes. But early on, I also saw a pic of some guy that had sliced the heck out of his foot...so with that image burned into my mind, I prefer to use shoes.
But yes, that board will work fine. Hopefully you'll find some riding buddies and you'll be able to try some other decks to see what else is out there. Enjoy your shredding... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

they're accessible boards. Hyperlite is in a crap ton of shops and it's also a well known name. Plus, if you're coming from wakeboarding, it's not out of the question to stay with a brand that seems reliable or is known to you, whether that be hyperlite or liquid, etc. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

hurley2589, Where in TN bro? I'm here for a couple more months
:edit:
And you answer your question. I personally would suggest re gripping it with actual grip tape. And more people dont like if because it's flat deck a little on the long side of things...If you can a creative mind you would do some work to it and it'll be fine. You should come by Shadrack watersports sometime and shoot the breeze with me. It'd be dope to talk to another skater for a change... _________________ 10101 |
