Yeah, I am really concerned to be honest. So much so that I might not ride again untill it cools down alittle. Amoeba's can be in any body of water over 80 degrees so is you ride in a small lake you take a chance. Larger lakes and lake chains may be alright because the water does not warm up as fast. But you still risk it when in the shallows. I rode last week in a small lake by my house and water was like bath water it was gross after riding I spent the next few day sick as hell, scared the crap out of me. Its pretty crazy because I am 26 and have lived around lakes my whole life and last time I remember a summer when the water warmed up this much I was 10 and they closed a bunch of lakes down because of the amoebas. Makes me wonder if they will do it again.

its pretty crazy. If you get one there is no cure. They cause your brain to swell and ya, you have like 3 days to live, so sad. My moms team in the lab at the hospital were the ones to first diagnose it. Its best to stay out of the shallow warmer water because that is where they form. Be careful at winch spots because they are usually more shallow and warmer than just lake riding. So ya, stay out of the shallow warmer water and try not to get to much water up your nose and you should be ok.

My bio teacher showed us a video of a guy that had one go up his pee hole. My lake is huge as hell but still hot as hell. And I've had cold symptoms for the past week. But I will punch one in the face if it comes near me.

yah my mom was telling me she didnt want me to ride again for a while but screw that i admit its sketchy but even still you have a greater chance of being killed by a falling coconut so i think ill take my chances just avoid sticking your face in 8 inches of water and sucking water through your nose.

Your chances of dieing in a car accident are better than being attacked by an amoeba. So are you all telling me youre gonna be riding youre bikes from now on but then again youre probly even more likely to die from riding your bike. Ill admit though when faced with unknown and uncontrollable circumstances such as dieing from an amoeba, It can be a scary thought. The chances are slim to none though so go out and ride your hearts out.
