think Aaron reed was the first to do wake to wake back big, also the first wake to wake 3 shuv no grab, Drew D did a w2w 3 shuv to stalefish back in the flatline days though on a flat deck...freak. also A. Reed does wake to wake front bigs as well as i recall hearing through the grapevine. i know steve schoenhals was landing some aroud the same time.
thomas horrell: w2w toe 3 (back in ... what was the video? damn)
reed hansen: double kickflip, double varial flip
matt manzarri: w2w 3 flip, w2w double flip
blood: switch fs flips
ross gardner: pioneered the late shuv
danny hampson: w2w body varial revert
aaron reed: frontboard backbig out on a rail, shuv onto a rail (him or grubb?), backlip 270 shuv on a rail (asterisk 1), backlip back big on a dock (issue 2), front and back 3's into the flats
daniel lovett: back big (metronome )
aaron reed: backlips on rails? def the first backlip shuv (sfumato), and inside out backbig (sfumato), also front blunts, backtails, back noseblunts
thomas horrell: front and back noseslides, noseslides shuv outs
kyle walton: reentry front 3 shuv (In Its Travels, but this may have been done before that, wouldnt doubt it)
steve schoenhals: his part in relentless bonus: 270 shuv to front board on a rail, reentry front bigs, shuv on shuv off a rail...great tech stuff
brian grubb: sex change (asterisk...kind of ironic he invented that trick pshhaha), toeside one footer revert w2w
nick taylor: benihana to blind (inside out: Esoteric and issue 5), front 3 bigspin (toeside flats)
george daniels: frontside flip off an incline (counterfeit this), flats frontside flip (wbm sequence), kickflip onto a rail, w2w switch front big (both C.T.)
nick taylor: flats hardflip
stu shinn: "top secret" toeside flip tricks... haha
brian dalton: TS inside out heelflip
chase connor: first one I SAW do an inside out toe back big and a backside reentry back big
thats all i got for now, also i remember landing backside reentry kickflips and frontside reentry FS flips before i saw anyone else do em, not sure about it though _________________

kirby josh, you're right.
Also, I know grubb had a kickflip off of some obstacle on one of his wooden sbg models back in 02...I can't remember if it was a kicker or what (I'll check, though). I just know it was mobbed as hell.
and I don't remember the exact combination, but I'm pretty sure steve sheonhalls (sp) had the first something to 450 shuv out. I think it's in relentless and it was definitely in wbm. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

grubb's was off the old small incline at the projects, i think they showed it in the credits of all or nothing, but i heard that he didn't actually ride away from it, I could be wrong. In wbm they showed steve do a 270 shuv to front lip 450 shov out . _________________ "it's just wakeskating, no one knows who you are............ except for maybe some kids on the internet" Nick Sloan |

well, there was a full sequence published of grubb's obstacle trickery in combination with a kickflip dismount. I can't remember where it was though and this thread has me going through all of my old mags and now my fingers feel funny.
I feel like some of this stuff is really iffy to claim...like it's hard to just go by a magazine or a video as opposed to just being there....you don't really know when the footage was captured or anything like that. Plus, like with spins off of the wake...thomas and byerly have been doing that stuff on cut down wakeboards, and drew was pretty much a ninja back then too. but some cool stuff I ran across was a sweet back lip by thomas on one of the 03 concaves (on a dock), and based on these little magazines, I'd say grubb did the first shuv onto a rail in 02 (ish, of course). Finally, there was a cool sequence of reed doing a front board 270 shuv out...
Right, I also need to throw out thomas' wake to wake frontside shuvit and his wake to wake body varial in decline...I want to say that BV is one of the first wake to wake, and definitely toeside. Seriously though, I'm sure most of these guys aren't all that big on claiming who did what first back in the day. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

electricsnow, I agree, I bet they arent all into it either. I just thought it would be kind of cool to see a list of who was working on what back in the day.
NaRC-P rider, I know of someone who was doing backside re-entry kickflips in 01, but i wasnt sure if they were the first. Thanks for the additions!!! thats a ton.
This stuff is really hard to figure out. like esnow said, just because it was in a video or mag doesnt mean that they were the first to land it. so if the list is incorrect... speak up! _________________ integrity-wake.com | chriscut.com

Plus, It just wasn't documented hard core...like this guy was wakeskating in france in late 94, at the least(alex barnoin). I'll eventually have a thing about that on the front page, but he was jumping the wake in some fashion...who knows what he was up to. And it's crazy because jason messer was doing his thing too...it's not like they would have known about each other either, which makes it all so interesting.
but yeah, messer's landed stuff too. He doesn't have it documented and he's never ever tried to claim it (though he's told me he's done it, and I have no reason to believe otherwise because he's as true as they come), but I'll suggest his wake to wake shuvs. He was close in that fresh water clip we have on the site and we have a shot of him trying one on a directional wakeboard with a huge surf dog fin on the back...so I just think there's a lot that we don't know.
But otherwise, I like your idea for the thread. This and the transworld anniversary makes me want to pay closer attention to this stuff. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
