Stories... not really...

But I'm warning you... never go nomihodai with a bunch of Irish, crazy things will happen. There was singing... and nakedness.... among other things.. in the izakaya.

Might hook up with Yoda during Goluden Weeku to wakeskate...

Sweet!!

Oh yah.....how about this.

Never go to a two hour Beer Nomihodai/Tabehodai with Tre Cool from Green Day and the entire Green Day road crew, then go to a two hour Whiskey Nomihodai at a Suntory Whiskey bar and expect to be able to make it to work the next day......Faw-k!!!

We partied with plenty of Irishmen in Tokyo during World Cup....Holy sha-it!! Gaijin should be banned from Nomihodai the same way we are banned from going to Japanese Rub-and-tugs...... Crazy Barbarian action.

I am sad to admit that I've been drunk, naked and kicked out of an Izakaya on more than one ocasion......

hollah!!

Kicked out... that's good. Shocked Considering the Japanese politeness and all, I didn't think they really kicked you out, unless...

Whiskey nomihodai sounds awesome, I'm yet to find one of those... But I'm gonna be here for 18 more months, so...

Apparently some Izakaya magically and suddenly close up when some gaijin try to enter to have a calm and peaceful nomihodai... Wonder why?

Surfing this weekend. Trying to learn...

For the common interest, please define the following:

Izakaya -

Nomihodai -

Gaijin -

Rub-and-tug (self-explanitory?)-

Green Day - Smash

Izakaya - This is like a small Neighborhood mini-bar / eatting place. The closest thing that I can think of would be Tapas in Spain. If you are Spanish or have been to Spain, then you will know exactly what I am talking about. You go there to drink draft beer, smoke cigarettes, and order many little snacks such as (fried rice balls, mini kabobs, fried fish, etc). Many Izakaya shops don't like foreigners and will kick them out. My local Izakaya was run by a snowboarder. We were super good friends. i would go there like 2 times a week and get drunk laugh and smoke half a pack of Marlboro lights. The best are Izakayas on the side of a ski-hill.

Nomihodai - All you can drink!! You can do these for 1 or 2 hours. You pay a flat rate and it is all you can drink. Other than "Konichi-wa", "Nomihodai" is the first Japanese word foreigners learn.

Gaijin - Japanese for "Foreigner". It is like "Gringo" in Mexico.

Rub-and-tug (self-explanitory?)- "Soap land" is a rub and tug.

Green Day - Tre is a deuche who tried stealing my money when I was drunk......

I was gonna post something about it on here, but I wanted to wait until I got his photos, because we only had mobile phone cameras and he had some kind of fancy digital SLR... I didn't know about the blog, though, thanks!

Etoooo, totemo tanoshikatta! I sucked though... Its was nice to try out the Success, even though it was on the small side for me and the one-fin setup is not how I normally ride... Muzukashii! Really nice shape and pop though! I might wanna get Heartbreaker or an Engen some time in the future, provided we find some place to ride that is less than four hours away... Surfing was nice too, the waves in Chiba-ken treated me quite well...

Going to Tokyo this weekend... but right now I gotta go and teach some kids: "Maria sensei, wakaru! Wakarimasu, Maria sensei!"

sweeet!

When I taught it was always....."Gya-bin sensei, wakarimasen!!!"

Yoda is a little shutter-bug....go figure, he's Japanese. I told him to buy a video camera and film Video. Good job hooking up and riding. I bet gas was expensive. He sure loves to smoke cigarettes. He brought like 4 cartons to Canada...hahahahaha

Chiba-ken does have good surf. In Tokyo, go to Shibuya and have dinner under the train-track in Ginza. Get up early and go to the fishmarket.

Hahaha.... Reading your post I was like: "What does Gya-bin mean? shizzle my Japanese is bad!" Haha, so stupid. Sorry, Gya-bin-san! I've been trying to teach them "I don't know" for five weeks now... but it's still "wakanai".

I loved how Yoda called me Maria-chan. Very Happy To me, "chan" is like a tiny Japanese girl. Most of the time in this country I just feel like a gigantic transvestite. But I also feel that if someone treats me bad I could just step on them. Smash

Gas, by the way, is cheaper here than at home... But we went to Matto-sans club, so it was 5sen a piece... 15 minutes, clocked... Takai, ne? But worth it.

He's a cool guy, Yoda. And really cool of you to hook me up! And he did buy a videocamera, I saw it in his fancy camera case. Which reminds me of the surfers and their surfboards, and stands and the rinsing off and wiping off (with nicer towels than I use for my body) and the colourful buckets... Heartbreaking, really.

yep....the Japanese can't pronounce "Vs", so my name in Katakana was "Gya-bin Jo-kasu"

The funny thing is if you say "Gyaaaa-biiinnnnnn" it means SURPRISE!!!

I am glade Yoda bought a video camera. I will make him put together a solid video part this year.

I call him Yoda-kun eventhough he is older than me....so don't worry about th e "Chan". I call my wife, "chan". I used to also call Yoda Kohai and I told him that he had better shut-up because I was his wakeskato Sempai. hahahaha...he hated that.

http://www.engrish.com/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanji
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katakana
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirigana

Right…so as explained before, the Japanese language is a mess of multiple writing systems (Kanji, Katakana and Hirigana).

Foreign words are spelt using Katakana. The story about Katakana is that some Japanese man went to Europe and heard new sounds that they didn’t have in normal Japanese, so he made up a language to deal with foreign sounds. It is a VERY flawed method because they still can’t pronounce foreign words the way they are supposed to be pronounced, i.e., my name is pronounced “Gya-bin Jo-kasu” and beer is “Biru” and “Please give me a blow job” is “Pa-lee-su giba me a ba-ro-ja-bu”

Your name pronounced in Katakana would be “Ni-ku Te-ra”

Below is how it would be spelt using Katakana characters.

ニクテラ

We should start having "Japnese lesson of the day" on here and before you know it, japanese would become the secret language of wakeskaters all around the world. Sorta like Esperanto, but cool.

Actually, Nick, it would be more like ニック テーラー 。

My name is Nick Taylor:

Watashiwa ニック テーラー desu.

If your're a guy and among friends, you could also refer to yourself as "boku" to make it more macho, which makes it:

Bokuwa ニック テーラー desu.

This is the end of today's lesson.

Oh, shizzle. You prolly have to install japanese fonts on your computer...

OK, so it's something like "Nicku Tailaa". Think ai as in "air" and o as in.. eh "all"...

Yeah, that was confusing... Crazy Eyes I hope I'm a better English- than Japanese teacher...
