im making a board, should i go fins, or no fins, and if i go fins should i shell out the 10ish bucks or make my own
i like to bite in hard for wake to wake and im not sure if that is even possible with no fins, but with no fins i have a bit more leeway any pointers would be nice |

Bonis69, Edging hard is very possible without fins. It's personal preference though, and that's about all anyone can tell you. _________________ - Evan Molina |

twgapk, oh yeah something like this:
WS1: you arnt legit if you ride finless
WS2: Yeah right, it takes more skill to ride finless
WS1: what ever dude, you dont pop tricks when you ride w/o fins, fins=more pop.
WS2: fins are like cheating cause they land your tricks for you. plus Nick taylor rides finless so it has to be right.
WS1 i heard NT rides two fins connected by a piece of string and nothing else
WS2: really?
WS1: thats what i heard
WS2: cool
but yeah, i see this thread going that way _________________ I run show where ever I go. |

It completely depends on the rocker of the board. For instance, putting a shallow and short-based fin on a board with a big 3 stage rocker probably won't hang up if you're screwing around and doing lipslides and surface 180s, but it probably will if you're on a board with a smaller or continuous rocker.
Also, the rails of the board play a bit of an outside role. If you've got super rounded rails then you're gonna have a rough time cutting hard and you might wanna throw a small fin on there. On the other hand, if you have pretty sharp rails (ie HL Vinyl) or channels in the bottom of the board (Legacy) then you'll likely have enough tracking ability in the board already, and you won't need any added help from a fin.
I've always ridden w/ a chopped down fin on my Integrity. Once I got it dialed in I loved it because it helped me when I needed help, and didn't hang up on me when I didn't. When I demoed the Legacy for the first time I rode it finless, and it still tracked just fine.
In the end it's all up to you. I think messing around with some tools in the garage is a cool way to make your board ride exactly how you want. So if you've got the curiosity and the facilities, I'd go find yourself a small fin and ride w/ it for a set, then find out how much you wanna shorten it from there. Worst case scenario is that you find out that you don't like fins... _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

sharp rails tward the tail/nose, and maybe two fins on each end, but super duper shallow, a little further in than where a normal fin would be, like 1 or 2 inches from the rails. i think thats an intresting setup _________________ I run show where ever I go. |

IMO if your making your own board for durability sake scratch the fins less holes less places for water to get in between plys just have the self control to make sure you pop and catch your tricks _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |
