if you dont have a wakeskating related job or are a rider for a team, i am wondering how all you pay the bills ( for those with kids or wife) make enough time for them and afford to wakeskate ?? and have enough time for that matter !

For most of us it is just that, a hookup. Def some awesome perks associated with it, but not bill paying type perks.

Work hard, Play hard. It is only money and you can't take it with you when you go. Might as well live life to the fullest. Providing for my family and staying financially secure comes first and foremost, but I would rather have fun with what is left, rather than be bored and let it sit in a bank.

As far as time goes, you use the time you have to do what you want to do. Find a job / place to live that leaves you time to get on the water. Be it after work from a day job, or take a night job and ride during the day. (Much harder to do that with a family though) Live closer to a body of water so that you don't have to spend all of your time getting back and forth. All of these are things are totally in your own control.

there are only a handfull of riders that actually can say they live off the sport, like byerly used to work at chipper beef jerky, they do a big thing on it in the bonus of asterisk.(dunno if he still works there) and now he is gunna get even more flow from his wakeboard company thru hyperlite

but i am semi unemployed.

Work hard and play hard is it exactly.

I work my a$$ off every day at my job to pay for my house, cars, boat, moorage, kids.....yada, yada, yada. As far as time goes it's all about priorities. I got home from work last night and felt like being a couch potatoe but my 4 year old said he wanted to ride his snow board......so I got all our gear together drove up the mountain and hiked him up the hill with his board so he could ride down.....over, over...and over again (cause we have snow but the hill is not open yet). why would I do this? A) cause my son enjoys it and B) It is my hope I will have a 4 year old riding a wakeskate in the spring.

Cary K has got it right...it's all within your control. I choose to pay more to live 2 mins from a body of water which allows me to keep my boat moored and therefore wakeskate before work in the morning.....I can not think of a better way to start the day. This gives me my time in the morning so I can spend the eves with my kids....and the best part is my kids love the boat so dad gets to wakeskate in the eves as well!!!!

Deepcove
Props, on making your kid first, if more Dads did that the world would be a better place. I have three kids and a new house it is rough at times making time for everything in life but , it seems to make things more rewarding. A choppy day in the water is better then no water . Thats sick your 4yr old is snowboarding next year my 4 and 6 yr old daughters want to learn to wakeskate. They want skateboards for Christmass. I guess I'm going to have to learn how to skate at 33yrs old it should be interesting.

a.townskates, i agree in a sense, but shizzle then when the government finds out after a couple years of payments that you have no record of any job employment and any Legal source of income but some how you still make every payment, they become suspicious... i will admitt i have grown but i do it for recreation and just to kill time, not to make money. Its just fun too

I build pools in Orlando, Florida so it is easy money for the most part. I can get as much work as I can handle for the most part. I do work 6 days a week though 8 to 12 hrs a day like someone else said work hard so you can play hard.

I went to college & got a degree (thanks Mom & Dad; gotta pay it forward for my kids). I work hard at my job (architect designing interior spaces for a large national corporation). Most of my time goes to taking care of my family & keeping up with my job. #'s 2 & 3 don't allow me to ride as much as I would like, but certainly would not change anything. If not for #'s 1 & 2, I probably would not be riding at all (my only other pull moved far away, and taking young kids along would not work with a jet ski).

I don't live as close to the water as I would like, but I bought my house before I learned how to ride, and moving is too expensive. (doesn't help that lakes around here have been drying up) Been skating for about 2 years (after giving up on strapping), and I'm still a pretty crappy rider at the ripe old age of 38, but I have a ton of fun. Much respect to all the people who can balance family & work, and still throw down like the big dogs.

network engineer for a telephone/internet company. full time job. I don't have a boat or a ski, but thanks to a good friend i now have a winch. I ride after work until its dark or on the weekends as much as I can. I could afford a jetski but since I don't have any friends to ride with within 1 hr of me that want to ride regularly I decided to just get a winch. I'm lucky to have such good friends who invite me to ride on their boats and skis as often as they do.

GIS Analyst, little bit of Database Admin for the local water utility. I am lucky to be able to afford this lifestyle, especially with a wife, infant and mortgage. I'm hoping to get my son into it when he gets old enough Cool

Luckily my dad likes watersports too so him buying a nice new mastercraft last year wasnt hard for me to get happy about, but to pay for gear, gas, and all that junk i work in the city during the week all summer long and then ride all weekend at my cottage. Then when i finish school i can start my own company and live the high life... sounds easy enuff, no? Razz
