|
|
From here on forward, September 30 will forever be known as JD Webb Day in Orlando. Today is the day JD lost his better judgement, strapped on his brain bucket, and launched off the biggest kicker in water sports history.
In the heart of downtown Orlando, on the calm waters of tiny Lake Eola stands a large, expensive fountain. Somehow somebody came up with the asinine idea of jumping over it on a wakeboard. Somehow the Discovery Channel show "Stunt Junkies" heard about it, wanted to do it, and got JD Webb to say "yes." A series of events I'm not sure I'll ever understand, but am kind of glad took place.
All of that came together this morning when the fearless Webb, in front of a crowd of about 1,000 onlookers, went for broke and jumped the fountain. I'm not sure of the final measurements of the jump, but it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 feet. Yeah, that's like a 7-story building.
I've never seen anything like this in my entire life and I'm not sure if I ever will again. I've known for a while how talented JD was on the water, and now I know how talented he is at hucking himself through the air for extended periods of time and defying both death and gravity. The kid has some serious balls of steel, and now he has a key to the city and a day named after him.
There are some pictures of him doing this isane jump on Alliance's site here's the link: http://www.alliancewake.com/default2.aspx?pg=article&id=358 _________________ ~ www.integrity-wake.com ~ www.iwinchglobal.com ~ |

there were some pics in various thread in wakeworld. The whole set up looked retarded, and I can't believe he made it first try. people on there were saying he jumped something like 110 feet.
Anyway, before people get pissy, I"m going to move this to "other boardsports"... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

| I think Nick should head down there, hit it on his skate and show that strapper up. |

| I was talking to Shaun Murray this afternoon at OWC, he was driving the boat for Webb. Apparently this footage will be shown at some point o a show called Adrenalin Junkies. And also Murray said the jump was freakin huge... |

zoso, you must be joking. nick would be nothing more than a human kabob on the re-named "fountain of death." Seriously, go to wakeworld and actually look at that gap and the height of the fountain. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

I know I saw it. And obviously you're right, it probably would be a death trap for any skater...but could you imagine how sick it would be if someone actually stuck it on a skate? |

These ramps are just going to get bigger and bigger until something tragic happens. But con grats to JD on his accomplishments. In Retrospects Parks hits a similar jump but not to the extent of this one. _________________ ~ www.integrity-wake.com ~ www.iwinchglobal.com ~ |

i wonder how fast he was going.
back in the day when kurt wastell cleared the 100" table at mammoth, he said he had to hit 60 m.p.h. gettin towed by the snomobile.
so, i would say prolly about 40 m.p.h.?
regardless, that is nuts. that aint no soft landing.
i doubt anyone will beat that before next years over. |

Rusty grew up 2 hours from me in a small town in the middle of the praries call Humbolt. It is just amazing that he is that good when you can only go out on the lake and ride from May till Oct if you like 53F or 12C water in Sept and May. _________________ ~ www.integrity-wake.com ~ www.iwinchglobal.com ~ |
