Hey, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about an alertnative winch...
If you could tweak or change anything about your winch, what would it be??? Or do you have any new ideas that haven't been done yet??...
My bro-in-law is building me one and wants it to be one-of-a-kind...What do you think??? |

Any winch you build on your own is one of a kind, if he can tig weld, and has the tools to bend aluminum, have him try doing and all aluminum frame thats almost one piece/stick, all bends, that would be pretty awesome and lightweight, I don't think anyone has done an electric motor winch yet, the problem with that is you have to lug around batteries and keep them charged up.
But like I said, anything that you build yourself, without using someone elses design plan and dimensions, or buying off a shelf is going to be one of a kind. Have fun with it. |

Obviously, the one that he makes me will be one of a kind....
He can weld and all that, I will pass along the alununum idea...
What do you think of throttles on the handle? I know it's been done, but do you prefer them or not? |

Thats along the lines of what i'm talking about, but you can probably build a frame with half the metal if you have the skill to make all the bends.

A throttle on a handle and brake system make the winch a lot easier to drive, were using a dirtbike throttle for ours, but theres a lot of options. If youre not worried about weight or size, build it on somesort of platform or mount a seat, then use a gokart pedal setup for your throttle and break, most people want it as lightweight and portable as possible.
Or on a motorcycle frame like this haha... http://winchskating.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=706 |

DVSKATE, you should have the seat detach and attach so you have less weight to carry in one trip. _________________ -andrew- |

I'd say try to design your winch to:
-be as Small, Compact and light as possible
-Have a hitch
-be stable on the ground
-have wheels
-have a good throttle control system
And your winch will be sick. I wouldn't try to change to much up from the normal 6.5 hp, TAV2 setup or you might regret it. |

I need some crazy, never-been-done type stuff....I am thinking of attaching it to a lift on a 4 wheeler....I donno....I thought I would get a little more help....
I am aware that it needs to be user-friendly and lightweight so I can go to remote spots, and the hand throttle is a good idea...
You think 9 hp is too much? My buddy has a 9 hp and it jumps a little when you start it, but pulls great. Whatever...I am not the mechanic, so I'll leave it up to my bro...thanks for the input |

JEnna, Attaching it to 4 wheeler is a great idea as long as you are taking it to a remote spot where you wont get in trouble for having a off-road vehicle. 9hp isnt too much. If you already have it, use it. Its good for heavier riders, but if your pulling less than 150 lbs of weight, 6.5hp with a TAV2 is a good setup. Do you have anymore bathing suit pictures of you and your friends? post em hot stuff! _________________
