although he sounds like a good guy i wasnt really impressed... sounds just like another sermon in a contemporary Christian church

yea not to disagree just for the sake of doing so, but i found his speech or sermon or whatever you might want to call it much like every other explanation i receive for questions of the sort...

not really answers at, not that i expected him to have them, but he just cleverly worked around the questions with a drawn out answer ending up with you have to have faith...

now faith is a tricky concept. because it basically means that regardless of any evidence to the contrary i can and will believe what i want... which is fine because you do what you want, but it is hard to convince people (intelligent people anyway, and that is your underlining goal as a christian as deltarider has so clearly stated) when you dont use logic but instead use a term that can mean whatever you want it to mean; in a sense...

i thought he was very entertaining and would love to sit down with him and have a conversation but his lecture IMO was not something i would look to for answers...

(hope no offense was taken on any side, if so i apologize Smile

haha i dont claim to have any answers... i just dont think anyone else does either...

i am not an atheist (although i use to be), i believe in a force greater than ourselves that ties all living and non living things together and was the factor that started this existence...

the purpose of life.... this is a good question, all i can do is live it to the fullest and do my best to live a good life... (i dont really have a good answer for you, sorry Birthday

1) That's how I was raised
2) I believe that what you give is what you get, even in this life.

PIRATE, i do good because i am a humanist, and because i AM ran by my primal instincts and those insticts tell me to always do the right thing... its called my conscience

i still know when i do something wrong and feel terrible about hurting another human because i know we are all connected... so i am ultimately hurting myself...

lastly i believe in karma... and i only want good karma

ill have to think about the eternity ? and get back to you after class... until then

JeffKnox, i agree that we are all connected. But how ? I'm not trying to convert you or anyting so dont assume that, i'm just talking for the sake of talking here..... So you believe in karma right. How do you believe in karma ? I know the easy explination might be ..... dare i say "faith". But we'll go beyond that, maybe someone beat you up when you were a kid at school.... and on his way home he got hit by a car. wham..... "karma" right? And things like this go to prove your point that karma does exist.... and that is where your thought base comes from............. we'll to explaine my side of this look outside your window..... I dont beleive that the earth that we live on in all of its "perfectness" is just chance, I refuse to believe that this was all a accidents, I believe that it was designed. And my best answer that i can come up with is that Jesus is who he said he was.......

JeffKnox, good talk man, its good to have a difference in beliefes and not want to kill each other cause that accomplishes nothing. I actually really really really respect the fact that while you wont call him Jesus, You will admit that there is something else out there. Believing in something bigger then yourself is Key. And while i whole heartedly disagree with you and your beliefs, I do still respect them.

2 things, and you may not agree and i hope this doens't offend you but

First: I believe without a shadow of a doubt that God will reveal himself to you sometime in your life....

second: If you do someday come to believe what i believe that you will call me and let me know..... Cool

PIRATE, naw man its cool... i go to different churches sometimes to learn about different beliefs and rituals and everytime i go i hear that same line... that i will find jesus and he will save me...

well ive felt this way for 2 decades even while i was a catholic and a nondenominational protestant/christian... and the more i learn the more i back up my current beliefs... i honestly i am living a great life, im in school full time at the best college in the country (UF BABY), i dont do drugs, i have good grades, i wakeskate as much as i can, and can honestly say what is he goin to save me from?

the more i learn the more i learn that no one on this planet honestly knows how we got here and where we are going... there is so much controversy that if any one group was right i would be absolutely surprised... so all you can do is keep learning and keep living a good life looking out for your fellow human being...
