BryceBell, Thanks! You just drilled out one of the hubs and left out the keyway for the pin side right? That's exactly how i intended to build mine using the same bearings.

DMoneyy's winch has both Laughing

Originally it had just the releasing spool but eventually the hub that was on the axle was slipping so I drilled a hole through that and put another pin on it to hold it.

SkateWake772, theoretically... but if your hub (that your drilling through) is not thick (at least half an inch), then the torque from your spool will cause your hub to mush against your pin... ie you just fvcked your spool. beware

SkateWake772, yea all hubs will work, the question is for how long. the thicker the stronger the better. you just have to keep an eye on it to ensure your hub walls don't start to give up.

its about the thickness of my index finger...

I had purchased my spool from released winching, right around when they became aware of the problem and began switching to the thicker hubs.

I believe it is possible to buy replacement hubs too, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal if you destroy your current one, just a hassle of getting one.

Ok, Another question. What thickness of pin are you guys using? I just picked up a 3/8" pin that i think should work but just curious.
