I'm a little confused. Mabye I'm not reading the right things, or I ride with a bunch of awesome people, but i have never met/seen anyone who wakeskates for something other than fun. There has been much disscusion that people are not wakeskating for enjoyment anymore, but for sponsership, recognition, ect. Here is a quote from Gib Gibbons On Deck.(Nothing against Gib at all, i think he is sick, this was just in his article.)

"The kid loves to ride, and doesn’t take it too seriously, which is starting to become a dying art in our quickly progressing sport."

Question

A dying art? I don't think so. People wakeskate for fun, and I'm pretty sure the people who do it for the love of it FAR outnumber those who do it for other reasons.

I don't know, thats just my two cents.

IMO. wakeskating strictly for pay i dont think can be done. people become amazing at the sport by riding so much, because they love it, nobody strives to be a pro wakeskater because the publicity and money isnt like it is in the other sports. sure being pro gets you buy and is freaking awesome, but theyre pro because they make a lifestyle off of something they love, not so they can get paid.

Maybe a year or so ago that statement might have been true (when there were a few dudes were trying to land as many different flip tricks as possible), but I dunno about today.

i no what u guys are saying, but for some people it makes it more fun if you strive to create a goal for yourself by getting sponsored. Totally understandable fun both ways to, as long as your wakeskating nothings wrong

yeah alot of people do it for fun but alot of people are also real competitive by nature.

get the winch speed wrong at a pro contest and see how many people "do it for fun". Laughing

To me wakeskating is an escape from reality. When I'm out on the water it doesn't matter that I failed that class, have no monies etc. For me its a way to clear my head, to get away. When I'm out on my board I don't have to listen to anyone. Some riders today get all butt hurt and start screaming, throwing boards etc. if they don't land certain tricks which is total crap IMO.

wakeskating is fun

it takes me away from everything

i hate when riders get mad

riding for any other reason than fun is dumb i dont care who you are

having a shiznackle driver does suck and is annoying though haha
