Chrishau, lol front big w2w... everyon is doing them latly, ross gardner, danny hampson (WAY MORE STYLISH), gnarly dancer just posted a vid of him doing one. thats just a few off the top of my head, i know there are a shizzle load more. '
anyway, about grubb, his parts do mostly consist of the same tricks, but all those tricks he can do are SO effing consistant. Its crazy, thats why he is such a great comp. rider cuz every HUGE trick he throws, he can do 90-100% of the time. He goes HUGE with his w2w shuvs, and him and drew mcgukin are the only guys i ever see doing w2w body variels, and in my opinion that is a styleish trick, grabing it and then turning... so sick. |

grubb has an alright style wake to wake, but it looks so wakeboardish on rails and pretty pathetic behind the jetski. i like the skateboard looking style way better, and i'd take a poked out ollie over a sequenced shuv indy any day... what ever happened to creativity? _________________

NaRC-P rider pretty much summed up what I was trying to say. I'm not saying he's a bad rider, just really generic to me. Every trick I've seen him do looks almost exactly the same every time. And yes, I'm not too big a fan of his wakeboardish style. To me, wakeskating looks sooooooo much better with a skate-influenced style and that's what I think should be winning contests. _________________ I like to choke when my team needs me the most, no Romo. |

I agree with DVSKATE on this.
At this point, now it's just feeling like bad vibes all over the place...everyone is a critic on everyone and knows what's best, and who sucks and who doesn't and what's "legit" and what isn't. It's disenchanting.
To me, grubb doesn't look like a wakeboarder...I think people need to let that shizzle go and forget about wakeboarding. It's an archaic sentiment at this point. sometimes you people try way too hard to claim skate style when sometimes, the stuff that's claimed doesn't even look that good ("skate" style or otherwise). I just read an interview in transworld or something and one dude said that the best advice he ever received was from a photographer (I forgot his name...maybe it was gabe morford) and the advice was to just skate--don't worry if it looks good or bad, just skate. Eventually you'll get what you're looking for...
I watched the cable footage I took and straight up, grubb just looks smooth. And you guys do not watch him enough if you don't see him kickflip and v flip, because he kickflipped at the rail event at the projects, and he was definitely trying his v flip but I can't remember if he landed it...I don't think he did. sure, he may not have a kickflip style that you like or whatever (as can be said with any rider), but he's progressing his riding...I guess he's almost modernizing it (or that's how I'd describe it). but as I always say, that's why you need to see RLAND becuase he shows a lot of versatility in his section, and I for one dig it.
anyway, this is depressing. later. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

NaRC-P rider, You took the words right out of my mouth...
Even though he(B Grubb) is super consistent, I feel that I have been watching the same video part every time he is in a different movie. I guess he just sticks to what he likes...
And no I haven't seen rland yet. Will soon though. _________________

My say on Grubb:
He was one of the first main guys wakeskating so of course he has a little wakeboard style, but to say he is landing the same tricks since '02 is BS.
You said he is pathetic behind a jetski, Have you ever seen his I/O ts V-Flip?
Grubb is one of the OG's of wakeskating and deserves respect like the others such as Byerly and Horrell. _________________ Everytime you think your talking, your just moving your mouth. |

I don't think anyone out there questions the consistency in Grubbs riding. He won the overall fairly which I'm sure most people who were there would agree to. Grubb himself thought he had lost to Nick in the cable event, so yes it was a close one. For the record: Grubb was not the only nor the first to hit the A-frame. I know that the cable jam is not a kickflip event (even though a certain ReedH turned it into one) but seeing Grubb try some flip tricks was kinda sad. He wasn't even close on any of his attempts while Nick, ReedH and several other made them look like a walk in the park. To me the best so called best-wakeskater out there should be able to pop flips with a decent amount consistency which we didn't see from Grubb on saturday.
It's as simple as this, some guys are really good at flips/shuvs or whatever but in a competition setting no one rides with the consistency Grubb does, which his record clearly shows. Two stand-up runs the first day was awesome.
Grubb IS the real deal but the younger guys will surely knock him off his throne very soon if they can become better competition riders.
On another note: Was it just me that thought AReeds run against ReedH in the cables was sad? he pretty much only cruised around the first half pass. It really looked as if he knew he was beaten when he'd just seen ReedH ride. _________________ Jazz up your life !
