JamesBoardr, wel the difference between the electric start on my winch and a jet ski is that My magneteo (the part that charges the battery while the engine is running much like an alternator) isnt nessicarily rated for all the electronics I have on it the biggest power draw being the fan, plus if you have the wrong type of carburator on the engine it makes it hard to start and succeptible to battery drain or flooding so I can see why alot of people are having problems with the electric start and thats not to say I havent used my kickstart alot, generally newb drivers can kill the motor which makes it a litlle flooded and hard to start so you kick it over a few times to clear it (sometimes it just starts on the kick) then you start it with the electric start, I tried to make it really hard to put yourself in a position where the winch not working ends your riding day, because I hate that and I had alot of that with it in the very first stages of its development so its not quite as simple as a boat or jetski where you can outrun the charge on the battery b/c its been sitting, plus I use gel cell batteries to help combat battery drain by lack of use

Everyone that builds winchs should in my opinion come together for a one time build-off and inovate and refine this new winch idea that I have. It will revolutionize ALL winchs forever. Its hard to do it by yourself ,but with everyones "hookups" with fabrication I think all of us could make it work.

hahaha i wish that would happend but it won't eveyone's got there own idea's. Everyone is just bitching about the best winch in their opinion and everyone has different views on it. That is what make's the market, a bunch of different winchs made by different companies. They all have their unique style and their own recipie for building winchs. Any winch you are going to buy will work perfectly fine it is just pereference.

Think about it, if ALL of the so called winch builders got together to design the next generation type winch, which this sport needs to stay inovative. Everyone will benifit. The big horizontal shaft lawn mower design is big and clunky to say the least aside from being heavy. We won't even get into the frames.That design is dated even though it still works it just shows no new technology. Its a stagnant design that can go no further than what it already is. WE NEED NEW MORE PORTABLE WINCHS, I HAVE THE DESIGN...I CANNOT BUILD IT SOLO BECAUSE OF THE COMPLEXITY WE NEED ALOT OF CREATIVE MINDS WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE IT WORK. -Tony

Also, I wanted to say that I think people working together on winches and exchanging ideas will only help our sport. Keeping everything a secret will only slow down progression. From the first time i saw a winch online I wanted to build my own winch and basicly "open source" (read: Document) the design and build process. I ended up having a good friend build me the frame assemble and design most of my winch. I dont have any welding experice so when I asked if he could build a frame for me, he offered to help build the whole thing, what a nice friend huh? If I would have built my winch myself I would have made a how-to for everyone to see, but since I didnt build my winch myself I dont really have the right to do that.

I know some people werent happy that others were making winches and/or selling them... but i dont think its that big of a deal. no one is making a living from selling a winch and the more winches there are, the more wakeskating can grow Smile

I pretty much love winching. Very Happy

I'm glad most people are at least interested in the new idea, but I think were gonna start a post on Winchskating.com to figure things out further, we'll keep wakeskating.com updated on the latest progress.-Tony
