I'm planning on doing 15" diameter spool walls made out of 1/4" aluminum or possibly steel (hoping to avoid steel for weight but we'll see) with adjustable 4.5", 6.5", and 8.5" ...

Has anyone ever done 8 or is that overkill? I mean it seems easy enough to do, would give you more strength, and a smoother circle. I don't remember ever seeing one with 8 though?

I'm currently building my first winch, and I'm just wondering what your opinions are on the spool bars. Do you guys think 4 is okay, or would you recommend going with 6? Just trying to ge ...
