| you should be able to find something like that, although i dunno if it would need to be 6" thick unless you wanted some crazy rocker? i think, maybe wrong actually i dunno. call a lumber yard. you gonna do a hardwood like oak or something sick? do dark cherry lol |

oak is pretty heavy, ive thought about this idea before too and i think it would work.
the only objection i have is that i think the multiple plies in a regular board is which makes them so strong. when you see karate people chopping boards they chop solid sheets not ply wood, i think becuase the solid sheets arnt as strong??? |

If you were to make a solid wood skate one of the best woods to use would be Teak. _________________

You could go to one of those ghetto a$$ flea markets and have one of those chainsaw artists cut it out of an old tree. Now That would be connected. whoot whoot.
P.S. I already did it about a year and a half ago. My old man is a wooden boat builder and i used some of the nicest shaping tools and cutters there is and IT SUCKED!!.

You'd probably have to cut down a whole tree to a get a piece of wood that big...that or hit up your local lumber mill and try and get them to snag you a piece of a tree before they mill it.
Another thing, it's gonna take you one hell of a long time to chisel it all out, and it will be very hard to get a consistant concave because you will be doing it all by hand. |

| it wouldnt be that strong. You get most your strength by laminating the thin layers together. |

I think that the board will flex too much and you wont get any pop out of it. You can for sure make a ridable board that way tho... do it.
Post some pics too

integrity640, you can find lumber that matches your specifications, I've built some stuff with lumber that was about that same size. It's more pricey than regular lumber, but you can find it at "real" lumber places. I say go for it for the hell of it. I've actually thought about solid wood wakeskates before but I was thinking about making a CAD drawing and CNCing it to the size I like. _________________

thanks for all the input fellas!!! Theres a bunch of lumber yards around me so i should be able to find a piece.
To those who would doubt its strength, what if I fiberglassed it? That might strengthen it.
Jesse, ill have to check into teak, thats what they make the wakeboard boat swim platforms out of. I dont have any cad programs but graph paper, a ruler, and a pencil should do the trick. Itll take awhile but i think ill just sand the concave into it, or remove as much wood up top as possible then sand the rest. I might be able to do it over spring break, but chances are ill start when i get back from spring break.
devotid, have you ever thought that you just suck? lol jk bro how long did it take you to build any why did it suck in your opinion?
Norcalz71, im going to make it out of the finest wood mother earth has to offer
Thanks Again everyone i appreciate the input! So as soo as i get some more info ill start. Teak might not be a bad choice, Ill just have to research it. _________________ They call me Dr. Jones

if you really want to make a super bitchin strong skate you need more smaller plys and cross grain laminate all of them, then that shizzle will be rugged, and better snap _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |
