There have been some studies done at my school about so called "technostress" and repetitive stress injuries. Some scholars are claiming that a perfectly healthy person would become mentally and physically handy-capped if they were forced to sit in front of a computer for extended amounts of time. These studies are really interesting, because they show that too much computer use can actually cause you to lose your mind, and create permanent damage to processes in your brain. I'm reminded of the recent "Integrity/I’m so cool" post...jk

How much computer/internet is too much???

And what does this mean for future generations? Everyone can see the increased trend in computer use over the last decade. Now granted there has been a gradual plateau in recent years, but do you think it is going to get to the point where people actually start alter the way they think?

On a side note…

The article that I read spoke specifically about our cognitive process as human beings. It said that excessive computer use alters the way we filter information in our mind. A basic example. A lot of people on this site have really strong views about Integrity boards. I’m sure they are great boards…no doubt. But ask yourself for a moment...would your views be that strong if this site didn’t exist? It’s almost as if this forum has created a mob-mentality amongst its users. And if you have fallen deep enough into this mind-set…you are simply dismissing what I am saying as BS. Same goes for the hatred towards Hyperlite. Would your negative views towards Hype be as strong if this site didn’t exist? Maybe for some of you they would. But the few who truly do feel that way…have a substantial effect on the attitude of others who may not. That is what technology has done to humans; it has allowed the “few” to communicate with the “many.” This obviously has its pros and its cons. My point is that people often don’t understand how much their words can affect other people. And the individuals have to be constantly aware of the simple fact that you can’t believe everything you read.

Going back to the Integ and Hype example. Here I am, in Canada, thousands of miles away from most of the people who post in this forum, and I found myself buying into the mindset. The mind-set that Integrity makes the best board, that the bi-level is amazing, and that Hyperlite boards suck. Truth be told; I’ve never ridden an Integrity, or a bi-level, and the only Hyperlite board I ever rode…I really liked at the time. The article that I read was great…because it really made me open my eyes, and slap myself on the wrist. I am not preaching to anyone here…I am just sharing a personal epiphany that I experienced.

Thats one of the most meaningful posts ive ever seen. But about the whole mindset thing, i know people are going to flame me for this but w/e, could it be possible that people love integritys so much because everyone else loves them. They think that the integrity will be so good that any improvement in their riding, they credit too their new board. People talk about them so much on this sight that even before someone rides an integrity they find themselves supporting the company. Its the same thing with hyperlite, people have such a negative mindset about them. If someone thought that a hyperlite was just as good as an integrity i would bet that they would ride just as good on a hype as an integrity.
