POPTARTS TLDR version: Im randall. Im legit. Don't forget I exist. chickity china the chinese chicken you.
I thought it was rather comical. Everyone knows its all politics in the big boy relm. If you don't kiss the right asses and all. How do you even get away with talking shizzle about your boat sponsor in a Mag article. I would love to have a free boat. Wake is not big enough to support video part only riders. Wakeskating sure can't. He sounded like a punk rocker. _________________ https://vimeo.com/moontowerco |

That was surprisingly awesome... Randall is one of the only people who I will still watch a video clip of if I happen to see it online. _________________ P.S.... this is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated |

As much as Randall says he's an "Artist" with his wakeboarding he doesn't leave room for anyone else's interpretation of the sport.

This times a thousand. I was really impressed with his writing to be honest, stream of consciousness style that I connected with. He said exactly what was on his mind instead of the same canned response that you hear from pros all the time.
Poptart, he was not hating on Byerly at all. He showed a lot of respect to the man (as well as Schmaltz and Parks and others in the article). I just went back and looked for a quote where it may be misconstrued as criticism, and this is all I could find...
Quote: | Doesn’t matter that even I was impressed with Bob’s riding at the Alliance Less Than 5 contest and like a lot of other people thought he shoulda/coulda maybe beat me and won. Doesn’t matter because the judges were Matt Staker, Danny HARF, and SCOTT CHRISTIAN BYERLY! Do you think you know wakeboarding better than them? I know I don’t. Why do the matters that bother me not matter? Because in the end I will still be me, doing it my way; reclusively painting things the way I envision them on a canvas all my own. |
He's saying that Byerly validates his "win" in the less than 5 contest. He trusts the judges opinions on the contest even if he felt that Bob may have one upped him. |

Erich Schmaltz. Certain people just seem to be into things for the right reasons. Vandall and Erich are two of those (to me). _________________ i am the bear jew |

senorbueno, oh I thought that entire paragraph was sarcasm. If you read it that way it comes across entirely different. at that point in the article I had already assumed everything he was saying was in a negative context. but when you assume.....

Most wakeskaters seem pretty down to do whatever they can to help wakeskating grow and accept that it's not a money maker or a way to get rich. (what's the current instagram quote for the contingency: "If we don't do it, nobody else will.")Plus, we have a cooler contest series that encourages progression. Maybe in certain regards there are "vandalls" or whatever.
I've commented on this in two other areas before so I'm kind of over it. I respect the heck out of randy and he'll always be one of my favorite wakeboarders. but when you think about someone who doesn't like contests and talks about making video parts, he really doesn't have THAT much of a web presence, outside of stuff he's done with/for sponsors. Correct me if I'm wrong because maybe I'm forgetting something. I feel like there are some wakeskaters who work harder at making web videos than some wakeboarders who have a more established industry (or whatever). And it's not like they have to be totally serious videos either. People just like to see that guy ride, no matter what he's doing.
I think back to the chris mack interview I edited down for my edit, and he mentioned how thomas was all into filming, even way back then. Chris said something like, if you were going to thomas' you knew you were going to be filming, and there was either going to be a camera on the boat or on shore. I feel like if you're going to be a straight up freerider, that's the mentality you need to have.
And really, especially nowadays, how many opportunites are there for wakeboarders to film a full length video part? I think it's harder now than ever. That's why if you're really into the freeride bit, I think you have to be creative to get yourself out there...there still needs to be a major effort. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

I believe that's actually a play off a quote from the Ben Horan Interview in Issue 1 of the wakeskate mag.
It was "If we don't do it, it's not going to get done" in reference to a question about wakeskaters starting their own companies and the tour, etc.

I'd love to read more on this.. what are the right reasons and who deemed them to be so?

That could be tad--you know I haven't seen it yet. it's the spirit behind it that I love. Honestly, I think a whole lot of what's been accomplished in wakeskating is because of that mentality. That's why wakeskating is really fun to be a part of, and it's the best place to be. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Wow that was soooo interesting....... I feel terrible for the poor kid from canyon lake..home prices are down there and some family owm as little as one bmw.... Shits getting real........ My favorite part is that he's the expert on "art" and that there is no room for interpretation in between......... If I could say one thing to vandalll it would be..... Hey randy; 2005 called it said your rope length article was faux pas, player, update your material.
if I hear how tough it's been on anyone in the wake scene I'm going to....... Describe on the Internet in great length how much I strongly disagree. _________________
