Probably a bigger sprocket and try for an 8in inner diameter. Im running 4.5" inner diameter with a 68t sprocket and a tav with 12t.
Im sure that the tav is saving my ass here so dont go that small. _________________ - Mead-Hall |

I know knox sent me some numbers at one point. I remember hearing 12t/70t/8in for some reason. I have the numbers written down at work. I'll try and get them to yah. _________________ - Mead-Hall |

mead_hall, I think thats for 6.5 HP motors. I have it on a 6.5 HP and its a little slow.
I smaller spool will be slower. You need a bigger sprocket or a bigger spool.
I would suggest getting bigger centrifugal clutch sprocket. |

| I have a 12/60 right now, with a spool diameter of roughly 7", maybe a little more because I am using 5/16 braided polypro ski rope so it's really thick. Anyway before putting on the 60t I had a 72 on it. I am running a 6.5h engine and it was fast as hell, faster than you want to be pulled by a boat, even with the 72t, so it sounds to me like your problem might not be with your gearing or spool diameter. Hope this helps. |

I rekon the best ratio for a winch is 6:1 with a variable drum size (ie a spool that can be changed to either 6", 7"or 8")
For example having a 10/60 sproket, or as i use, a 12/72.
It usually sits in that butter zone for torque/speed. Also with a variable spool, if you have too much speed but not enough torque (or vice versa) you can always drop or increase the drum width.
If any of this makes sense _________________
