I bought a modified holga and I can hardly wait to use it. I like the spray and the lighting in the first shot... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

The Holga is to Wakeskating what the guitar is to surfing.
Holgas are NOT as easy to use as you'd think. Load your film in dark places and definately use electric tape to prevent light leaks and over exposures.
Good job with the above. It's taking me like 8 rolls of film to get two shots that were good. _________________ Life's Kredo = "When the snake falls in love with the spagetti it's time to buy a new hat." & "I guess I need to whiskey up these corn flakes..and heroin up this Orange Juice." |

electricsnow, what kind of modifications does it have? Put some pics up after you shoot a roll, id love to check them out.
jonnyUTAH, great analogy. Thats pretty true. Tape does a holga good. Wakeskating is hard to shoot with a holga, you usually get lucky. With only 2fstops and one shutter speed the thing is pretty basic. I usually use it for cool portraits like this one of trav.

JAM, I bought my camera from holgamods.com and the function I paid for was the time exposure function. I got the impression that most times that that particular modification is irreversible, and I personally didn't want to screw around with it because I really don't know enough about them. This guy does it so you can either shoot with the stock 1/100 shutter speed, or you can shoot and keep the shutter open as long as you want. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

esnow, ya I would be afraid of messing something up if I did the mods myself. That guy does have some cool stuff on his site. I want to put some 35mm in my holga and experiment with it. Mine has a manual exposure function where you hold the shutter open manually for however long you want. Here is a pic I took using it. I wish I had the remote hook up on mine that way I wouldn't of had to, hold the shutter down for 20 seconds.

NICE! 35 mm color film is the first roll I have, since it's what I found at my house. I've yet have time to fuss, but I only have a week and a half left of seriousness...then I want to take some pictures of some of my special wakeskates (and whatever else catches my fancy--I don't want to waste it) with my holga.
Nice shot!! Frick...and some of the people on the holgamod site sent in some really nice looking pictures as well. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Greg T, dang those guys are in to holgas . Either way if it did have f8 and f11, the difference between the 2 on a camera like a holga wouldn't even matter. They are so close to each other its hard to tell the difference. Anywho, I think I am making this too technical for the general wakeskating forum haha.

supposedly my modified jobby has been modified to the point where there are two true f stops. That's one of the "standard" modifications you get at holgamods.com, and that guy explains the non-functioning fstop since one of them is fixed, but I seriously dont' know enough to know the difference. I just wanted a sweet camera to preserve the memories a little bit better that the digi... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

As soon as i saw these pics i had to have one..
So i bought one off the guy that esnow posted..
Looks so good, hopefully get it before chrissy.
What film are you guys using?
I really like the colours in the portrait of trav by JAM.
I have a 10d with 70-200mm F4L, but these holgas look sick for the price. |

i got a holga at the start of the summer and have had a lot of fun using it. I've been shooting 35mm because medium format film costs a fortune over here, and the processing and printing is about ?15 ($30) a roll!!
If you're shooting on 35m i recommend putting some electrical tape slightly over the top and bottom of the viewfinder, because it frames a square image and you will almost definitely cut off the top or bottom of your shot on a 6/4 35mm exposure. think widescreen against regular format, but with a vertical difference instead of horizontal.
I also bought it for the nostalgia side, i havn't shot any riding or action stuff, more scenic and 'arty' things. I got a few great shots but there's a lot of luck involved. i like that
