headhuntermx4, the Pope is the leader of the entire Catholic church. Basically we, as Catholics, believe that he is God's voice on Earth, so it's a big deal when one dies. Plus, this one was PARTICULARLY involved in world affairs and politics. First pope to set foot inside a synagogue, first Pope to set foot inside a mosque, helped take down the "Iron Curtain" of Communism. He was a pretty important guy.
