|
|
Hey guys,
Ive been skating for about ten years now. In the beginning it was 2 or 3 times a summer (live in NY). 3 years ago my buddy bought a chapparel so we started to ride 3 or 4 times a week, as you can imagine, we got much better and this was very exiting.
We live on a bay which can be pretty choppy, there is a cove where they allow skiers to ride if the boat is 21 ft and under. For this reason I bought a jetski, we had our fun practicing flip tricks on the glassy inlet, but the jetskis are a pain to have an observer, multiple boards or girls on. Also jetskis are no good for W2W fun.
Basically we want a boat 21 ft or under, with a tower and fat sacks that will give us a nice pop over the wake. problem is Im not loaded and cant drop 40k on a used xstar, which seems to be the choice ride of the richer riders in the area.
I've been looking around online and found a couple of Moombas for about 10k. I have no experience with these boats, ppl on other forums kind of indicate they are more of a skiers boat.
I will be towing this boat every time to salt water.
Any input would be much appreciated, Thanks - Honest bAAgel _________________ 12 ounces of confidence |

skiers boats are the best, you can get any boat really and have fun
steer clear from an inboard/outboard
just small ourboards and small direct drive ski boats _________________ https://vimeo.com/moontowerco |

| Lollar, haha have you seen the dubstep remix to that video? Pretty much the only time I've ever approved the use of dubstep. |

Haha very true.
As for a boat I'd definitely go with an older ski or sport Nautique. Can't go wrong with a Correct Craft. |

Ski boats are definitely where it's at for skating. Unless you're planning on being the next Grubb, wakeboard boats aren't really anything I'd even want to have. A good start would be to look up a Nautique 2001 (2001 is the model name, not the year) and MasterCraft Stars & Stripes. Two solid, low-profile ski boats that you can easily get under $10k. I think you can find newer ski boats with all the bells and whistles for under $20k too, but they'll ride pretty much the same.
Then of course there are john boats which are a favourite among the members here, partly because of their low cost, and partly because their wakes are a bit of a middle ground between a ski and a typical wakeboard/ski boat.
As far as the Moomba, I can't say much about long term reliability, but i've ridden behind several and I can dig them. They're made by Supra so I'd say that's a plus. _________________ - Evan Molina |

Coricluster's selling his Nautique 2001. Wake is great for any w2w tricks on a skate. Go buy it! Its in Ocean City Maryland.
Newer wake boats are gay. Chicks dig old boats. I learned this first hand. |

Thanks for the input guys,
A couple of years ago someone with an X2 saw us skating behind our jetski and offered me a tow. I hit the huge wake balls out and flew higher than I thought was possible, landing in the flats and cracking my wood bi-level in half. I've been chasing that high ever since..
Ive been reading this forum for years and know a bit about the john boats, could they throw a wake that would send me flying like a wakeboard boat?
