I hate how making your entire video an unoriginal slow mo dub step mess automatically deems it a good edit. Not to take anything away from the rider, but all of his tricks flopped across the water before he landed them and the editing is just so played out I couldn't even finish it.

The fun police will come out in full force I'm sure but without critique wakeskating videos will never get better. As a filmer, I've made it my job to make riders do their tricks over again for the sake of wakeskating and making sure outsiders see it done the best way possible. If its going on a wakeboard mag website, you'd think the riding should be mag material.

That's my 2 cents, I'm sure he's "just having fun" out there but I didn't have fun watching that video. Haha.

"Not to take anything away from the rider, but all of his tricks flopped across the water before he landed them"

What? So you are taking away from the rider then. I would love to land all those even if they werent as stylish and popped as they could be.

"but without critique wakeskating videos will never get better. If its going on a wakeboard mag website, you'd think the riding should be mag material."

This is true. This is the only reason to hate. It is not Mag material. On that note it is a great AM video that deserves credit.

"As a filmer, I've made it my job to make riders do their tricks over again for the sake of wakeskating and making sure outsiders see it done the best way possible."

Yes this is the way it should be. Just ease up on the regulars homie. You were crap at making videos and over editing too once Im sure

jdarr, no where did I say he was a bad wakeskater. The rider didn't film and/or edit that video. So he didn't put the sloppy tricks in the edit. I directed my post towards the editor.

If you're submitting a video to a magazine website, I'm going to automatically assume you are trying to get your name out there and you want people to see your talent. Coming from someone who runs a magazine and multiple wakeskating websites, I will tell you straight up that the people you're submitting to are going to shake their head at that stuff and move on. Who wouldn't want to be able to do those tricks? I never said "if you can't land it clean, don't do it at all."

Just because someone is giving constructive criticism doesn't make them a "meanie-head."

Well if anything you should give some criticism to Alliance for posting it. Im sure yall get all sorts of "unoriginal" over there at WSM, but yall dont post it. Everyone makes sh*t vids and think they are awesome cause its there own.

Im sure the editor knows it too. I all he as to do is check out any of the new wakeskate vids and he will realize his vid is bland.

Anyway great riding Sam!
Not taking anything from you. keep shredding bro

Tad- Keep making sweet vid pls

I think it may be going a little far to say ALL his tricks were sloppy. I saw a pretty legit kickflip that was popped and stomped well before his board "flopped" across the water....also a popped and stomped 3 shuv and pretty style'y ollie too.

That being said, I agree that a filmer should try and get the best possible footage of tricks even if that means not including the "sloppier" ones.

I myself am pretty new to this sport so I probably dont have much room to talk, but I like a little slo mo included into a video....it lets you analyze the trick and flo from a video viewers stand point and gives a bit more "beauty" to the overall motion involved in executing it.

Just my .02

Then you have nothing to worry about with the fun police. Very Happy

And also IMO, not every rider can make every trick look "...the best way possible." Much less does every filmer have to opportunity to film these riders everyday. If that was the case, every film made would be the same riders doing the same trick until someone new comes along and "the wakeskate supreme court" decides that the trick has officially been done the "new" best way possible. That doesn't sound like much fun to watch to me.

overstreet31, 4 tricks in a 3 minute video, that doesn't sound like much fun to watch to me.

Dubstep and slow motion are completely overused in current media. No one EVER uses slow motion in moderation. There was more footage of him riding away from tricks (slow mo'd x2) than there was of him performing the actual tricks. The average attention span for someone watching an online video is about 1 minute. Get to the point, what's this video about? Him waiting for a train or wakeskating? Putting a random clip of him standing by the subway in the MIDDLE of a clip of him hitting a rail makes no sense at all. So yes, that was a slow mo mess of confusion, with dubstep on top. (None of which is the riders fault, he didn't make the video)

And when I say "the best way possible" I mean, filmed the best that I can and making sure the trick was clean--no back drags or sketchy landings. (Also known as "takes" in Hollywood.) I'm never afraid to tell a rider if the trick needs to be done over again. It doesn't matter if I film with them everyday. He's at a cable park, tell the rider to take another lap. Professional videographers should hold their work up to the same standards as a professional photographer shooting for the same magazine. You don't see sketched out tricks or poorly composed shots in the mags for a reason.

ArcticSkate'n There were no 3 shuvs in that video. And is it possible for your board to flop across the water on an ollie? Haha.

I'm about to just make a beginners guide to legit media, full of serious, judgmental bull crap, so the weenies can steer clear of my too much to handle, supreme court rulings and the men can learn a thing or two about street cred. [/sarcasm]

My fault, musta been a backside big spin Smash

Im not sure if its possible or not, I just was going off the statement that all his tricks were flopped? Last time I checked a olie is considered a "trick" as small as it may be.

Im not arguing with you that the media could be better edited or the "takes" could of been done many more times to get that crisp video worthy shot. As far as I know the videographer/editor is a 12yr old kid with a HD cam and a Macbook Pro....IMO the video is decent, even tho it may not excite the masses.

No offense to you or the community.

True about that. Watching it again made me wanna fast forward. No need for the extra clips of him at the train or whatever they were trying to do, but his riding was fun to watch.

Also, if he was only gunna throw 4 tricks in a 3 min vid then at least they should get more shots of those 4 "floppy tricks" at different angles, in different places, hitting different stuff.
