i wrapped one with tennis racquet grip a couple seasons ago. it worked fine for a little while, but i eventually just bought a new handle. it's a little slick at first, but once the outer layer of the wrap starts wearing off it gets really soft and tacky.

| Your best bet will be wrapping with some kind of tape as opposed to gluing something on. We used generic athletic tape to wrap trapeze bars for grip and I think it might hold up for a while in water if you wrap everything tight. It's pretty cheap so if nobody has any other ideas it might be worth a shot. It can be kind of sticky at first but that wears off.

Go to a crafts store and get a foam sheet for padding first. I think they're 8.5"x11". They come in various thicknesses and shouldn't cost much more than a dollar. It's the stuff that sort of feels like the old Impala's foam grip if I remember correctly. Put that beneath whatever you wrap it with and it'll be a ton more comfy. As far as what to wrap with, I'm convinced there's something better than athletic tape/tennis racquet regrip. Maybe something you can weave tightly and then tie at the ends. Like some sort of long fabric strip. You could probably even get some moderately heavy string and with a tight enough weave, secure that foam sheet and it'd be pretty nice. Some of those sheets come with adhesive backing too, so you wouldn't necessarily have to be messing with it the whole time you're trying to wrap it. It's just that adhesives on tapes like that just won't hold up in the water at all.

| duct tape works just fine. does last but so long but you can always just retape it.

I've just this afternoon ordered some marine suede from my local upholsterer to have a go at this. Watched a couple of vids on youtube about recovering steering wheels and think a straight handle should be fairly easy.
I'm planning on putting some thin eva foam around first then cover in suede.
If it works I'll let you know.

Water tested! Handle feels real soft when it's dry but when wet it becomes super grippy. Next time I would make the handle thicker though. You know what they say, Big Hands........
Big handle
Durability wil be the big test though.

| POPTART, I made sure that I bought the extra strong thread. The lady at the shop reckoned it would wear your hands out before the thread frays through. Time will tell though.

lulzzz
it really looks amazing. i am in desperate need of a good rope and handle. i have some awful one from like 10yrs ago when all we did was kneeboard. the freaking foam slides around the handle completely!
they're just pretty expensive and i figure i'm not good enough to even deserve a decent handle lol

does it matter which kind i get? i mean we have a 1976 Checkmate with a pylon on the back so would that need a different rope than a 1995 Tige with a tower?

what your getting pulled with doesn't have anything to do with the rope and handle, its all personal preference. I got the lg because i liked the color and the leather grip is real nice and it has 2 or 3 5ft. sections starting at 65ft
