|
|
Hi there,
First of all, apologies for my ignorance, but I am *really* new to the sport and am thinking about giving it a try this summer.
I read that there are kid's competitions and stuff but when browsing the net for a wakeskate for my size (well, I'm 25 yrs old but quite tiny, 5'4" and just under 50 kgs) I was wondering if they only come in 3 sizes, with the smallest starting at about 40 to 41"?
Also, I am contemplating a 08 CWB base wakeskate 41" Grip top that I could get for quite cheap at a shop here, but am wondering if it would be a good choice for me.
a) I'm a complete beginner and haven't even wakeboarded but skateboarded and snowboarded a little bit (and by "a little bit" I really mean it!) as well as windsurfed a few times.
b) because of my size and figure.
Also I was wondering if a grip top is generally better or has generally more grip than a foam top?
What size would you guys recommend me and would the 08 CWB base (as seen here http://www.evogear.com/wakeskates/cwb-base-wakeskate-2008.aspx) be a good solution for a beginner?
I am also a bit reluctant because for wakesport you obviously need a boat or maybe a strong jetski (?) and I'm not sure I will have the opportunity to wakeskate every summer, as only my friend's got a boat in Spain (I am from the UK btw )
Cheers guys! |

welcome to wakeskating.com my bro. glad to hear you are gonna get jiggy with the wakeskate.
there are more than 3 sizes for sure, anywhere from like 38" - 45"
grip is the only road, foam is wacked.
the cwb shape looks a bit radical to me, i think the 41" size would be good for you, i checked on ebay, and there are some nice boards like an oak furchucker for 100 bucks. i really like the wood deck and go with grip, it's like a skateboard on water.
wakeskating has rewritten the rule book. you don't need a big boat nor a strong jetski anymore to get a pull, no sir.......all you do need is water.......and torque. wether it be a boat, ski, cable park, winch, car, or a galliant steed. where there is water and will, there is a way.
best of luck.....cheers. _________________ dbanana wrote:

Skye, Welcome. Raven pretty much covered the basics of what you asked but also, if you have an opportunity to ride a few different skates before you buy, you can figure out what you like/dont like.
If you have any specific questions, use the 'search' button at the top of the page. The site's been around for a while and almost every topic you can think of is somewhere in the message boards. Of course, if you're having trouble finding answers, go ahead and ask, but try to use the search first. |

Great thanks for your answers! I'm browsing the search results at the mo...
So you wouldn't recommend the CWB? afaik it's an entry level board.
Thing is, I'd rather not buy from US ebay as I don't wanna risk having to pay dutie or VAT or anything (I'm in the UK); I've had to do that before...
Do you think a 41" board would be good for my size?
Oh and I'm more a "sis" than bro (Guess we're in the minority here?)
cheers! |

Skye, I'm 5'10 and I find anything over 40" too big, but I'm in the minority on that one... I think with your size, you'd be more comfortable on a 38"-39". I also wouldn't recommend a CWB.
Whatever board you get, have fun! _________________ √ |

Skye, I agree with nick. I'm 5'7 and anything over 40.5 feels horribly big to me. If I were you I would try and track down a smaller skate. Try and find some people in your are on here, or try and get on a local forum for you area. There are people all around who love our great sport. Most of which are great people. No matter what happens, just grab a skate and have some fun. _________________ 10101 |

| The smallest on Ebay UK are 41" really. Arrrgh, seems to be quite difficult to find something smaller for an entry-level price! |

A lot of of used to skateboard, but we are afraid of concrete so we quit and splash around in the water with each other and play marco polo in between sets. |
