I'd actually call it weird, but not "in a mean" way.

It's cool, but on the other hand I'm like, how many wakeskaters really care about this? I remember wakeboarders talking about the masters and how it meant a lot to them because they grew up waterskiing and they knew that that tournament was a really big deal (again, to waterskiiers); so that acceptance meant something to them. How many wakeskaters are even in touch with that?
Beyond that, at least it's a larger platform for wakeskating to be seen on...but it's still weird! In fact, it actually means less to me because every other major WWA event incorporated wakeskating a long time ago and I respect that a lot more because they accepted it when wakeskating was nothing. Now the masters has accepted it, so are people supposed to think that wakeskating has finally arrived, or that the masters finally got it? or maybe it was a money thing (I guess that could go either way).
I'm probably thinking way too much about this. Anyway, who am I anyway! And maybe I'm way off and the people who get invited will be dying to go and win a watch or whatever. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Wow. I worked at Callaway Gardens as a Ski Instructor/Circus Performer (don't judge me) for a summer. I got to hang out and watch the Masters and work with all of the people involved with it. It's a HUGE deal and I'm really amazed that wakeskating is going to have a division. This is one of the most classic events in water skiing. It'll be interesting to see how the crowd reacts.
I feel about this almost the same way I feel about skateboarding in the olympics (not quite the same, but you get the idea). It just doesn't seem like a fit to me.
In any case, it's amazing for the sport's exposure to a broader audience. Now to see if they're going to treat it like a side-show or actually give wakeskating some respect... |

I feel you on this. I've felt that snowboarding is like the oddball in the olympics, but even though it doesn't fit real well its not like its a bad thing. The olympics did give snowboarding a ton more exposure.
Though comparing the Masters and wakeskating... I feel like their is more of a fit. But wheter you think it fits or not... Its still a good thing |

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! This is awesome! I've been waiting on this for years! The only people i see dissing this would be the skiers but they diss wakeboarding every year so f*ck them.
I've been going to the masters for the past 5 years and this will be my 6th. Every year i get into it with the skiers. They try to treat us (wakeboarders) like a side show because we've taken over their competition. But the truth is that without us, they wouldn't have the funds to continue it on the scale that they do it on.
To go off subject a little: 2 years ago i was on the pavilion when i overheard some old school slalom skiers talkin shizzle like "Idk how they even judge this, it's ridiculous. Theres no form. Trick skiers do the same thing with a smaller wake. They must be making up for something." At this point i was like until Chad Sharp came by and threw a dum dum. Dano the Mano called it over the speaker "And that was a HUGE toeside front mobe known as the DUM DUM!" and the skiers responded by saying "hahahaha, what an appropriate name for these guys" At his point I went mode.
They ended up leaving the pavilion after i shared my 2 cents
All in all though, a very good thing IMO. Hooray for wakeskating!!! _________________ When it rains, it pours. |
